On May 30, 1961 she married Russell Earl Smithart at Evangelical and Reformed Church parsonage in Sigourney. They lived and farmed in the Lancaster area for many years. She was employed by Albaugh Grocery, Head Start and the Sigourney Community School District as a cook, she retired in 1991 as the head cook. She later worked at Kids and Company Preschool and Keokuk County Veterinary Clinic for 13 years. Sarah was a founding member of the Lancaster Heritage. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Earl on March 19, 1999, grandson Jesse Boehm, two brothers Bill Deitrich, and Jerry Deitrich. She is survived by her daughters Gail (Andy) Weber, Terri Jo (Cole) Stiles, Reta (Mike) Wilkins, seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two sisters Garland Seaba, Sherry Hammes, four brothers John David Deitrich, Jim Deitrich, Gary Deitrich, and Mcgee Deitrich. Services were held October 10 at the Lancaster School, Lancaster, Iowa.
