He participated in campaigns in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, France, and Germany. After World War II he continued to serve in the Air Force Reserve. He served on active duty in Korean and Berlin conflicts. He attained the rank of lieutenant colonel and was awarded the Air Force commendation medal. As a civil service career employee he served the Corps of Engineers at Fort Belvoir, Va. and the U.S. Office of Education in Washington, DC. As a free-lance writer he wrote extensively on the role of the Corps of Engineer in the Civil War, 1861-1865.He was a member of the B.P.O.E., Lodge 2108, Pensacola, Fla. and A.F. & A.M.
