He was a retired deputy sheriff for the Hernando County Sheriff's Office with 21 years of service. He was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II. He was employed with the Civil Conservation Corps and was Christian. Survivors include his wife, Lily; a son, Nelson B. Brass Jr., and two daughters, Anita "Susie" Sanchez and Eunice "Yvonne" Chorvat, all of Brooksville; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
