     Garland Edward Vaughn Jr. Garland Edward Vaughn, Jr., 67, of Cedar Grove, passed away surrounded by his family, Saturday, November 29, 2014, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia A. Johnson Vaughn, at home; sons, Garland Edward Vaughn III and Glen Wayne Vaughn both of Blacksburg, Va; daughters, Tammy Hess of Campbells Creek, Amy Workman of Cedar Grove, Kimberly Graley of Nitro, Breanna Hess, at home; sisters, Jerry Kincaid of Kentucky, Barbara Vaughn of Maryland, 7 grandchildren; Dwayne, Shawn, Justin, Dustin, Jamie, Katlyn, Jason; 2 great-grandchildren, Trevor, Kamberly; and host of other relatives and friends. The Family would like to thank Hubbard Hospice House for their compassion and care for Garland. She was a native of Northfork, WV, but spent most of her adult life in Richmond. She was M.S.W. Counselor and had her private practice. She was a graduate of Marshall University in Huntington, WV. She received her Masters from VCU in Richmond. She was a very active member in St. James Episcopal Church, where she was Ecumenical Lay Minister. She is survived by her mother, Lotos T. Atkinson of Newport News. Graveside service will be in Peninsula Memorial Park, Newport News. on March 9, 1995.⁴

     Anna Lee Unknown was buried at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, 12609 Patterson Avenue, Richmond, Virginia.² Her Social Security Number was 232-28-8512.³ She was born on March 31, 1921.³ As of circa 1940,her married name was Thornton.² She married Sanders Harry Thornton, son of Arthur Philmore Thornton and Pearl Felicia Bruce, circa 1940.^2,4 Anna Lee Unknown died on April 19, 2011 at Hanover Co., Virginia, at age 90.^3,2,5 She Anna Lee Thornton, age 90, died April 19, 2011, surrounded by her family and dear friends after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Anna Lee was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Sanders H. Thornton. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Sandra Crouch of Midlothian and close friend, James Rooks; three grandchildren, Steven Crouch and wife, Debbie, of King William, Sharon Crouch Steidel and husband, Bob Steidel, of Richmond, and Scott Crouch and partner, Janet Pike, of Henrico. Anna Lee also received great joy from her four great-grandchildren, Samantha Hale, Coleman, Carson and Joshua Crouch; as well as two great-great-grandchildren, Zoe and Elijah. She also leaves behind her dear friend, Judy Aderhold. Anna Lee moved to Richmond in 1958 from Northfork, West Virginia, with her husband, known to all as Speedy. She worked for the Department of Motor Vehicles and retired from the Virginia House of Delegates in 1981, where she worked as assistant indexer. Anna Lee was a member of Welbourne Methodist Church. She was active in the Eastern Star, was a member of Glen Allen Chapter #61 and was a Past Worthy Matron. Anna Lee was a woman of faith and her family takes comfort knowing she is united in heaven with many dear friends and loved ones who preceded her. The family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the loving staff of Hanover Manor for their unwavering care and to her many friends at Hanover Manor for their support in her later years. A graveside service was held at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. on April 27, 2011.²

     Waldo Steven Crouch was buried at Saint Sebastian Cemetery, Beckley, Raleigh Co., West Virginia.^4,5 His Social Security Number was 235-62-7626.⁶ He was born on August 9, 1939 at Crumpler, McDowell Co., West Virginia.^2,3,6,5 He married Sandra Lee Thornton, daughter of Sanders Harry Thornton and Anna Lee Unknown, on December 23, 1957 at Sparta, Alleghany Co., North Carolina.¹ Waldo Steven Crouch and Sandra Lee Thornton were divorced on November 1, 1982 at Hanover Co., Virginia.² Waldo Steven Crouch died on April 30, 2007 at Beckley, Raleigh Co., West Virginia, at age 67.^4,6,5 He Waldo Steve Crouch, of Beckley, 67, formerly of Mechanicsville, Va. took his heavenly flight from Appalachian Regional Hospital Monday, April 30, 2007. Born on Aug. 9, 1939 in Crumpler, McDowell County, he was the son of the late Waldo Joseph and Omie Alice Cornett Crouch. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harvey and a sister, Carol Ann. He was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and he had owned his own business designing and building houses. Survivors include a daughter; Sharon Steidel and husband Bob; two sons; Steven Crouch and wife Debbie and Scott Crouch and companion Janet Pike and four grandchildren all of Richmond, Va; a brother, Robert Crouch of Waynesboro, Va; a sister, Rev. Betty Lusk and husband Frank Daniels and several nephews and nieces. He is also survived by his extended family of Pinecrest Hospital who took such loving care of him the last three years. Burial will follow in St. Sebastian Cemetery, Beckley. on May 2, 2007.⁵

Gabriel, on July 22, 1950 at Clarksburg, Harrison Co., West Virginia.^1,7 William Russell Thayer II died on August 12, 2009 at Maryland at age 83.^4,5,6 He William R. Thayer, II Deputy Chief U.S. Probation Officer for the Eastern District of Virginia On Wednesday, August 12, 2009 of Bethesda, MD. Beloved husband of Margaret T. Thayer. Father of Thomas Thayer and his wife Michele, Richard Thayer and his wife Joan. Mr. Thayer is also survived by his grandsons Sean and Ryan Thayer. Interment Parklawn Memorial Park. on August 14, 2009.⁵

     Norman Lee Altice Norman Lee Altice, 82, of Fort Hill Road, Bristol, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2015, at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center. He was the husband of the late Doris Marie (Mello) Altice. Born in Roanoke, Va., he was the son of the late Leonard William and Claudine (Thurman) Altice. He is survived by his sons, Norman Lee Altice Jr. and his wife Susan of Tennessee, and Kenneth M. Altice of Bristol; his daughter, Jane A. Altice-Leite and her husband Mark of New Hampshire; one granddaughter and one great-grandson. He was the brother of Jean Deyerle and Peggy Adams of Florida. Norman was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy serving aboard the USS Yosemite. He was a life member of the VFW and a member of the Ever-Ready Engine & Hose Co #2 of the Bristol Fire Department. He enjoyed his lifelong career as a toolmaker for Speidel and Dennis Machine Co. Graveside service St. Mary’s Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol.³ He was buried at Saint Mary's Cemetery, Bristol, Bristol Co., Rhode Island.^3,5 He married Doris Marie Mello.^3,5 Norman Lee Altice was born on April 7, 1933 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.² He died on September 26, 2015 at Bristol, Bristol Co., Rhode Island, at age 82.³

     Pauline Gladys Setliff was buried at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, 5737 Airport Road NW, Roanoke, Virginia.^1,2 Her married name was Altice.¹ She married Leonard William Altice, son of Charles Lee "Charlie" Altice and Pearl Beatrice "Pearly" Gearheart.¹ Pauline Gladys Setliff was born on May 5, 1910 at Olustee, Jackson Co., Oklahoma.^1,3,2 She died on January 24, 2011 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 100.^1,3,2 She Pauline Gladys Altice, 100, of Roanoke, Va., passed away Monday, January 24, 2011. She was born May 5, 1910, in Olustee, Okla., daughter of the late William Carl and Zeda Wheeler Setliff. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leonard W. Altice; son, William Marshall Caudell; and a number of siblings. Mrs. Altice was a retired self employed beautician with over 70 years of service to her clients. She was a member of New Covenant Christian Church, enjoyed gardening and loved her family and friends. She is survived by her son, Teddy Glen Caudell; granddaughter, Rhonda Kay Kiser; great-grandchildren, Jessica Kiser and Richard Kiser; great-great-granddaughter, Leah Kiser; brother, Jewett Setliff; sister, Linda Setliff; and daughter-in-law, Wanda Whitfield Fogel Caudell. Graveside services will be conducted at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Roanoke. The family would like to thank the Friendship Manor Palliative Staff on the 1st floor for all of their loving care and a special thank you to Mrs. Altice's personal friend and caregiver, Mary Jo Knight. on January 25, 2011.¹
