He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Trudy, and children Rhonda, Dana, Mike, Rocky, Denise, Mark, and Sherry, as well as many subsequent generations, all of whom loved him dearly. Jack found joy in his family, square dancing, and key chain collecting, along with crafting and donating toys to children's hospitals and organizations with other members of the S.D. Fine Woodworkers Assn. He also served the club yearly at the S.D. County Fair, "Design in Wood" Exhibit, welcoming visitors and answering questions. He was on the school board for St. Anthony's Catholic School in Liberal two years. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Denison. He was in the U.S. Navy reserve eight years. He came to Durant in 1992 from Liberal, where he had been a lifelong resident. He was preceded in death by his parents, and son Richard Allen Thurman. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Denison, with pallbearers Hector Trevino, Christian Holloway, Kenneth William Holloway, Coy Simmons, Matthew Williams and Ed Strafford. Susie Belle was preceded in death by her husband, Allen David Vest, Jr; son-in-law, Fred Thayer; parents, Van Hope and Harmon Albert; and four siblings and their spouses, Curtis and Nola Albert; Wayne and Frances Albert and their son, Stephen Albert; Francis, Martha and Zana Albert; John Pauley, and Nedra Croy; brother-in-law and wife, B.W. and Virginia Vest and their son, Joey Vest. She is survived by her daughter, Yvonne Vest Thayer of Christiansburg, Va; son, Allen David Vest III and daughter-in-law, Ellen Vest of Floyd, Va; granddaughter, Dr. Marcee Vest Berry and her husband, Garrett Berry of Richmond, Va; great-granddaughter, Ollie Belle Berry of Richmond; sister, Mary Nell Pauley of McCoy and brother-in-law, Don Croy of Blacksburg, Va; seven nieces and nephews and their spouses, including Peggy Ann Vest Mentel of Roanoke, Va. The family would like to thank the staff at Skyline Nursing and Rehab Center for their care of Susie Belle over the four last years.
