He was born on October 16, 1933 to Levi W. Barnett and Grace E. Frazier Barnett. Melvin served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Cloverdale High School and retired from Perfection Paint and Color after 43 years of service. His parents; one brother, Glendon and one sister, Patricia preceded him in death. Surviving are his children, Robert W. Barnett and wife Deb, James G. Barnett and Crystal, and Cindy S. Barnett; sisters, Norma, Mary, Marie, Virginia, Linda, Helen Sue; brothers, Leroy, Levi, Joe, Ronnie, Donnie; six grandchildren, Shannon Barrow, Brandon Barnett, Devyn Watson, Christopher Allen, Jessica Darby, Samantha Garrison; one great-grandson, Travis Barrow; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services with military honors will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Bittles & Hurt Funeral Home, with Chaplain Steve Williams officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Melvin loved hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, crossword puzzles and playing the lottery. on April 27, 2011.3

Genevieve, Mo., Virginia White of Perryville, Mo., and Patricia Daniels of St. Mary, Mo; and three grandchildren. Services were July 31 at Porter Funeral Home in North Salem with the Rev. Russell Allanson officiating. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery in North Salem, with full military rites included. on August 1, 1996.9

A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today (Thursday, Nov. 15) at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Road, Urbana. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at the funeral home. The Rev. Lisa Kincer-Wiedman will officiate. Burial will be held in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign. Betty was born July 6, 1923, to parents Wilbur and Clara (Soloman) Bales. She married Gerald Barnett on Aug. 3, 1941, in Champaign. He preceded her in death on Aug. 23, 2004. Survivors include seven children, Geraldine Morfey (Roger) of Champaign, Donna Zook (Gary) of Fruitland Park, Fla., Richard Barnett (Jeannie) of Urbana, Diana Shaw (Tom) of Laurens, Iowa, Wilma Dyson (Michael) of Mahomet, William Barnett (Cathy) of Urbana and David Barnett (Theresa) of Paxton; five siblings, Robert Earl Bales (Verna) of Indiana, Gene Bales (Marie) of Philo, Jim Bales (Pat) of Missouri, Georgia Hill of Champaign and Juanita Rose of Champaign; 18 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, two grandsons, one great-grandson, one brother, two sisters and a son-in-law. Betty worked for Magnavox soldering for the red eye during the Vietnam War. She later worked for the Urbana School District No. 116 for many years in food service. She was a member at Webber Street Christian Church and the VFW. Betty thoroughly enjoyed reading, playing cards, the St. Louis Cardinals and NASCAR. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Betty's family or to an organization of the donor's choice. on November 15, 2012.2
