She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles H. and Cora DeWeese Simpson; a son, Paul Shane Poling; and several brothers and sisters. Doris retired from the claims department of Allstate Insurance. Surviving are her son, John "Jay" Poling, of Roanoke; granddaughters, Jessica and Shanah and their mom, Andrea; great-grandson, Cole; brother, Hugh Simpson, of Bent Mountain; and sister, Laura Wimmer, of Wilmington, N.C; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family offers a special thanks to the staff on the 10th floor Oncology Unit at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their many acts of compassion. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Simpson Funeral Home. 540-366-0707. on July 1, 2012.2

Mr. Gray was born in Christiansburg, March 5, 1880, a son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Moore Gray. Mr. Gray held a position with United States Steel Company in Gary, W. Va., retiring In 1951. He was a former Mayor of Welch, W. Va., and also a postmaster there for 12 years. He was a veteran of World War I. Mr. Gray was a Mason and a member of the Blue Lodge, Knights Templar, and a past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Welch, W. Va. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Nellie Mays Gray; two daughters, Mrs. Ralph Liddle of War, W. Va., and Mrs. Isabell Schaake of Lawrence, Kansas; and three sons, Lt. Col. Belfrad H. Gray Jr. serving in Seoul, Korea, McClelland Gray of Fishersville, and Joseph W. Gray of Jacksonville, Fla. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10 o'clock in the East Chapel of the Hamrick Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Allen Jones, pastor of Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery at Christiansburg on Friday afternoon at two o'clock. on September 30, 1959.7
