Douglas Chapman Duffy1,2,3,4,5,6,7

M, b. May 2, 1955, d. February 7, 2023
Douglas Chapman Duffy Douglas Chapman Duffy, 67, of Salem, Va., was unexpectedly taken to his heavenly home in the arms of Jesus Christ on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, which is also the ten-year anniversary of his mother's passing. He was born in Winchester, Virginia to the late Annie Elizabeth Howell Duffy and Baxter Turner Duffy on May 2, 1955. Most commonly addressed as Doug by friends and family, he was known as a hardworking man who cared deeply for his family and friends. Doug is survived by his wife, Nancy Daniel Duffy; sons and daughters-in-law, Matthew Foster Burton and Sydney Lynne Reynolds, Daniel Burnette Burton and Jennifer Burton, Paul Chapman Duffy and Jordan Anneliese Duffy, and Douglas Turner Duffy; sister Carla Wyllie; niece, Hannah Wyllie Santiago; nephew, Robert Wyllie; brother Baxter Duffy; sister in-law Donnalee Duffy; nieces Lauren and Sarah Duffy; grandson, Llweyn Burton; granddaughter, Aria Burton. Until his dying day, he deeply enjoyed spending time with his friends, Bob Colombo, Bruce Chinery, and Mike Dagelen, going on what he liked to call "pirate trips" or "board meetings" which typically consisted of adventuring, bourbon, and good food. His favorite child of all had to be his beloved black lab, Chap. His least favorite child was unarguably his cat Socks due to her grouchy behavior and the stuffy nose she caused him due to his allergies. Doug was a jokester from day one. Some jokes were most definitely funnier than others, but ALL were funny to him. Although born in Winchester, he grew up in Maywood, NJ with his siblings. Growing up, he tried out many interests, but nothing interested him more than the camping, hiking, and adventuring he did in Boy Scouts and Sea Scouts. Through this he not only acquired his love for the outdoors, but he gained his life-long friends Bob and Bruce. Doug also was very studious. Upon graduating Hackensack High School in NJ, Doug went to City College of New York for a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management where he was able to study abroad in England and learn how to cook. Anyone who had tasted Doug's cooking was thankful for this experience in his life. Later, he decided he wanted to pursue a different career and attended Roanoke College where he obtained a bachelor's degree in Accounting. He was even able to acquire his CPA which he never ended up using but completed it anyways because he set his mind to it. Doug loved supporting his people. His father in-law, Wimpy, who recently passed, was constantly visited and encouraged by Doug to persist through his health issues, creating a genuine bond and friendship between the two. If he could help it, he would never miss attending one of Paul's soccer games or going to a concert where he could see Foster, Daniel, and Turner playing music on the stage; he was truly one of their biggest supporters. Doug loved home projects and was quite the handy man. Some of his favorite moments with his father were spent repairing the family house, also known as "Club Doug", which has stayed in the family since 1924. In recent years, he was able to renovate it again using it as an opportunity to bond with his sons and rekindle his own passion for such projects. The house was utilized for his successful career as a self-employed Real Estate Appraiser for over 25 years. Our family would love to thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support. 2023 has been a hard year thus far, but we feel uplifted by the thoughts and prayers that continue to come in. We love all of you so much.6 He was buried at Saint Pauls Episcopal Church Columbarium, 42 East Main Street, Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.8 He was born on May 2, 1955 at Winchester, Virginia.5,6,7,8 He married Nancy Ann Daniel, daughter of Walter Linwood Daniel Sr. and Peggy Ann Powell, on July 11, 1997 at Bath Co., Virginia.1,2,3,4,5,6 Douglas Chapman Duffy died on February 7, 2023 at Virginia at age 67.6,8
