They enjoyed their life together, raising their family and traveling. Married for 42 years, Mr. Lombardo was preceded in death by Dorothy. Left to cherish his memory are his children, daughters, Deborah Degenhardt and husband Steven, Judy Groth and husband, Daniel, and Christine Sheflin and husband David; sons, Lawrence Lombardo, Anthony Lombardo and wife Linda, and John Lombardo. Mr. Lombardo was proud to have been blessed with 12 grandchildren. His loss will also be sorely felt by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends. The body was discovered in the Roanoke River, about a mile downstream from its junction with Tinker Creek. "We decided to search, and we found him," Lt. W.F. Brown Jr. said. "We were 99.99 percent sure that if we didn't find him in Tinker Creek, we'd find him in the water of the Roanoke River." An autopsy scheduled today will determine whether alcohol played a part in the drowning, Brown said. "The family is taking it rough," Brown said.
