She was the wife of the late Van Paris Light. Born in Appomattox County, on April 10, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Bessie Wright and Josiah S. Burks. She was a member of Maple Grove Baptist Church. Christine was preceded in death by a son, Van O'Neil Light; a daughter, Norma Elaine Morris; four sisters; and four brothers. She is survived by four grandchildren, Karen Elaine Deegan, Billy J. Light, Crystal Kennedy, and Vanessa Christine Light; seven great grandchildren; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Burial will take place in Campground Cemetery, Creamery, W.Va. (she is actually buried in New Hope Cemetery) on May 2, 2016.²

     Van O'Neil Light Van O'Neil Light, 71 of Picayune, MS., passed away Wednesday, February 24 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Van was born November 27, 1944 in Clifton Forge, VA. to Van and Christine Burks Light. He grew up in Virginia, which is where he met his wife of 50 years, Phyllis Chambers Light. Van eventually went on to attend The George Washington University, where he was an honors graduate and obtained a degree in Oceanography. He began working for the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVO) at Stennis Space Center in Hancock County Mississippi, where at the age of 35, he became the youngest chief scientist NAVO had ever had. His career path allowed him to travel the world and experience a vast array of cultures, while making significant contributions to the United States government. During his free time, he was an avid collector of Argentina stamps, in which he took great pride in collecting. Van's biggest source of accomplishment was being able to spend his life with his wife, 2 daughters, 3 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. He spent many years playing, loving, teaching, and supporting his grandchildren Ashley, Savannah, and Cade. In his final months, he had the best blessing of all, being able to spend time with his great grandchildren Olivia and Ryan. Van will be greatly missed by his loving wife and caregiver, Phyllis Chambers Light. His daughters, Vanessa Thames ( Dr. Scott Thames) of Louin, MS. and Crystal Kennedy (Travis Kennedy) of Carriere, MS. His grandchildren, Ashley Rouse (William Rouse) of Picayune and Savannah and Cade Kennedy of Carriere. His great grandchildren, Olivia and Ryan Rouse of Picayune and his favorite puppy dog "Meme". Phyllis would like to extend a special thank you to Wendy and Jaime from Pinnacle Hospice and all of the workers at Morning Glory Hospice.⁴ He was born on November 27, 1944 at Clifton Forge, Alleghany Co., Virginia.^2,4 He married Phyllis Chambers circa 1966.⁴ Van O'Neil Light died on February 24, 2016 at Picayune, Pearl River Co., Mississippi, at age 71.⁴

Deegan and the late John Patrick Deegan, III; dear brother of Patti Gallagher (Michael), Pamela Dawson and Paige Rothermel (Mark); brother-in-law of Billy Joe Light (Barbara); uncle of Spencer, Mike, Sean, Alyssa, Mary, Nathan and Anne.²
