     Larry Arthur Gemmer Larry A. Gemmer, 70, of North Liberty passed away at 6:35 a.m. on Monday March 13, 2023 at the Center for Hospice Raclin House in Mishawaka. Larry was born on February 4, 1953, in Mishawaka to the late Jack and Dorothy (Kollar) Gemmer. He graduated high school and was a self-employed carpenter. Larry met and married Patricia Kotal on April 30, 1994, in North Liberty. Together they had 5 children; Cheryl (Billy) Lambie of Osceola, Andrew (Mona) Gemmer of Los Angeles, CA, Adam (Heather) Gemmer of Portland, OR, Robert (Michelle) Spychalski of Fort Wayne, and Joseph (Vanessa) Spychalski of South Bend. Larry loved the outdoors. He loved to fish and to camp. He loved sports, especially football. Larry was an amazing omelet maker and enjoyed making his famous omelets for friends, family, and even a few strangers. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 28 years; Patricia, his children Cheryl, Andrew, Adam, Robert, and Joseph, his sisters; Patty (Dan) Pullman of Cassopolis, MI and Lori (Brett) Bishop of South Bend and his brother Jim (Nancy) Gemmer of Mishawaka. Also surviving are his 10 grandchildren; Daniel, Anna, Zoe, Raygan, Levi, Grady, Evelyn, Iris, Otis, and Fern. She survives with two daughters, Ruth Ann, at home, and Mrs. Earl B. Rausch Jr., of South Bend; a brother, Ray Reeser, of Indianapolis, and a sister, Mrs. Florence Clark, of Idaville, Ind. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery where Valley Lodge 738, F. & A. M., of which Mr. Reeser was a member, will conduct graveside services. Mr. Reeser was a veteran of World War I. Kollar, son of James Horace Kollar and Emma Rose Day, on May 25, 1924 at St. Joseph, Berrien Co., Michigan.^1,4 As of May 25, 1924,her married name was Kollar.¹ Eva Florence Wilcoxen died on October 26, 1926 at Plymouth, Marshall Co., Indiana, at age 18.^3,4 She Mrs. Eva Kollar, age 18, of South Bend, was instantly killed, Lawrence Lawhend, age nine, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford A. Lawhead, 1638 North College street, sustained a fractured skull and is not expected to live, and Emmett Burris, also of South Bend, was seriously, hurt, when the automobile in which they were riding was struck a train at the Pennsylvania railroad crossing, one and one-half miles east of Plymouth, Ind., near the Marshall county farm, shortly after 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. The three were riding in a Chevrolet car and were towing a Ford, in which Mr. and Mrs. Lawhead, parents of the injured boy, were riding. The force of the impact broke the rope, saving the Ford car occupants. Emmett Burris is a brother of Mrs. Lawhead and Mrs. Kollar a neighbor. How the accident occurred is not known. It is thought the occupants of the car were unacquainted with the road and the crossing and were unable to stop before the car came onto the railroad, or they failed to note the approaching train. The flyer struck the Chevrolet and the bumper, to which the Ford was tied, was jerked off the Chevrolet, which was carried down the track about 30 yards where a part of the top and body fell away. About 25 yards farther west, the train came to a stop and the remainder of the car was taken off. The automobile was completely destroyed. Mr. Burris sustained a broken arm. The body of Mrs. Koller was to be brought to South Bend this afternoon. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the home of Mrs. Kollar's father, John Wilcoxen, 102 South St. Louts boulevard. Surviving Mrs. Kollar besides her father are her husband, Lawrence D. Kollar, two children, William and Lawrence, Jr. on October 27, 1926.⁴

     William Arthur Kollar was born on June 26, 1924 at South Bend, St. Joseph Co., Indiana.^2,4,3,5 He married Margaret Bell Bluhm on June 26, 1945 at Starke Co., Indiana.^4,5,9 William Arthur Kollar died on February 20, 2020 at Baldwin, Lake Co., Michigan, at age 95.^4,9 He William “Bill” Kollar, a longtime resident of Edwardsburg and Irons, Michigan passed away quietly to his rest in the loving arms of Jesus on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Grand Oaks Nursing Home, Baldwin, Michigan. Bill was born on June 26, 1924 in South Bend, Indiana to Lawrence and Eva (Wilcoxen) Kollar. At the age of 2, both he and his younger brother were placed in the South Bend orphanage due to the tragic death of their mother. During the summers he would be sent to relatives' farms to work as a farmhand. In 1937 he moved with his father and new step-mother to a farm near Edwardsburg. He put his experience with farm vehicles to good use during his high school years, by driving a school bus. In 1943, he was one of 19 graduates from Edwardsburg. After his marriage to Margaret Bluhm in 1945, they settled in Edwardsburg and raised 3 daughters. After working as a deliveryman for Robertson's Department Store, he purchased the Standard Oil station of Main Street, Edwardsburg. He also was a founding member of Edwardsburg Community Baptist Church, appointed an auxiliary constable, and drove ambulance for Paul Mayhew Funeral Home. In 1969, Bill was hired as Edwardsburg's first bus superintendent, which he held until his retirement in 1988. In 1992 Bill and Margaret sold their home in Edwardsburg and moved to the “wilds” of northern Michigan. He kept himself active doing yard work, serving as a founding member of Faith Fellowship Church of Irons, and enjoying coffee and chit-chat with the guys at the bait shop. Even though he had many health concerns, including a broken leg, making him wheelchair bound for the last 3 years, Bill never lost his sense of humor. Each week he checked his newspapers, jokingly stating that he must still be alive and kicking, for he did not notice his obituary . . . Bill will not need to search any longer, for he is walking and celebrating with his Lord and Savior in heaven. Bill leaves behind Margaret, his loving wife of 74 years; 3 daughters: Joyce Bowers, Janice (Daniel) Grose, and Joanne (Clyde) Williams; 6 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. on February 26, 2020.⁴

     Lawrence J. Kollar was buried at Southlawn Cemetery, 61300 US Highway 31, South Bend, St. Joseph Co., Indiana.^4,5 He was born on September 25, 1925 at St. Joseph Co., Indiana.^2,4,5 He married Alma Margaret Stinebiser on March 23, 1953 at Winchester, Virginia.⁷ Lawrence J. Kollar died on June 17, 1953 at Bethesda, Montgomery Co., Maryland, at age 27.^3,4,5,6 He Sgt. Lawrence Kollar, 28, formerly of South Bend, whose father lives in Dowagiac, died Wednesday in the Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington of injuries suffered in an explosion at the Aberdeen, Md., Army Proving Grounds. He had been in the Army for 13 years, served in World War II and recently completed 18 months of service in Korea. He is survived by his father, Lawrence Kollar Sr., Dowagiac; his wife in Pennsylvania and a brother, William, in Edwardsburg, Mich. An aunt, Mrs. Frank Badman, 1901 S. Ironwood Dr., and a other relativess live in South Bend. on June 18, 1953.⁶

     Alma Margaret Stinebiser was buried at Youngwood Cemetery, Youngwood, Westmoreland Co., Pennsylvania.² She Alma M. Zaleski, 90, of Boynton Beach, Florida, formerly of Jeannette, passed away on Wednesday February 1, 2023. She was born on January 22, 1933, in Youngwood, the daughter of the late Alva and Viola (Hoyle) Stinebiser. In addition to her parents, Alma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ronald J. Zaleski and her brothers, Frank and James Stinebiser. She is survived by her son, Carl Webb Jr., her stepdaughters, Bonnie Marcius and husband, Thomas and Dianne Levrio; her nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her faithful companion, her dog, Maeling. Alma had a love for animals, especially her dogs. For as long as her grandchildren can remember, she always had a dog at home. Alma also enjoyed crocheting. Over the years, she spent hours making blankets and clothes for her family. Another hobby she enjoyed was gardening. She had a passion for being outside and growing her own fruits and vegetables. He was born March 20, 1905, in Garrett, Ind. and came here from Garrett 60 years ago. He was employed for 35 years at the former Studebaker Corp., and then worked for seven years at the Garvin Machine Shop. He married Dolly M. Kollar in St. Joseph, Mich. April 13, 1924. She survives, along with three daughters, Mrs. Robert Harringer of Mishawaka, Mrs. Jacob McClone of Warsaw and Mrs. David Shirley of Los Angeles, Calif; a son, Edward J. of Elkhart, six grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Badman was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Mishawaka. on April 8, 1976.⁵ He died on April 8, 1976 at Mishawaka, St. Joseph Co., Indiana, at age 71.^2,3,5

     Mary Ruth Badman Mary Ruth Harringer, 98, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away December 13, 2025 in South Bend. Mary was born January 23, 1927 in South Bend, Indiana, to Frank and Dolly (Kollar) Badman. She married Robert Harringer on July 31, 1948. Mary worked for many years in the automotive industry, most recently with The Jordan Automotive Group, in Mishawaka, Indiana, where she retired. A woman of faith and service, Mary spent many years as a Sunday School Teacher at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Mishawaka, where she was also a longtime member. Mary enjoyed traveling with her husband before his passing, and she was a wonderful cook who showed her love through food and hospitality. Her kitchen was the heart of the home—especially during the holidays—when she was known for preparing memorable meals, welcoming family to the table, and making sure everyone left well fed and cared for. Mary was a selfless, caring, and loving mother and grandmother, and she will be greatly missed. Mary is survived by her sister, Sherri (David) Fuller of Bainbridge, WA; her sons, Robert (Kathy) Harringer of Shorewood, IL, and David (Deanna) Harringer of Mishawaka, IN; her grandchildren, Jennifer Harringer of Elkhart, IN; Frank (Charla) Harringer of Lafayette, IN; Daniel Harringer of Elkhart, IN; Brian (Jessica) Harringer of Mishawaka, IN; Katy Harringer of Monon, IN; and Elizabeth (Jeremy) Zerby of Mishawaka, IN; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Harringer was born in South Bend on Feb. 14, 1922, and was a lifetime area resident. He was a carpenter and had retired in 1984 after 15 years with Woodcox Construction Co. in South Bend. On Aug. 11, 1948, in South Bend, he married Mary R. Badman. She survives with two sons, David L. of Elkhart and Robert V. Jr. of Joliet, Ill; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Mossman and Mary Jane Simon, both of South Bend; two brothers, Paul and Richard, both of South Bend; and his mother, Berniece Harringer of South Bend. Mr. Harringer was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mishawaka Post 360; of Carpenters Union, Local 413 in South Bend, and Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church. He had been a scoutmaster for 18 years for a troop sponsored by St. Peter Lutheran Church in Mishawaka. on November 2, 1986.³
