Allen Ray Lupfer1,2,3

M, b. January 16, 1927, d. November 14, 2008
Allen Ray Lupfer was born on January 16, 1927 at Royal Oak, Oakland Co., Michigan.4,2,3 He married Georgean Elizabeth Boyer, daughter of Napoléon "Nap" Boyer and Charlotte Frances McMurren, on May 16, 1950 at Lordsburg, Hildago Co., New Mexico.1,5,3 Allen Ray Lupfer died on November 14, 2008 at Arizona at age 81.4,3 He Allen Ray (Bil) Lupfer passed away Friday, November 14th after enduring a battle with Alzheimer's disease. The youngest of six children, he was born in Royal Oak, Michigan on January 16, 1927. Bil was preceded in death by his wife, Georgean, parents Edna and Theopholis, sisters Ruth and Betty, brothers Donald and Robert and grandson, Mark. Bil leaves behind many relatives and friends who will miss him but who will be comforted by the fact that he is relieved of his earthly trials. He leaves his loving wife Patricia, who, along with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, cared for him with love and compassion during his illness. Bil also leaves behind brother, Tedric, his and Patricia's son, Michael (wife, Rebecca), his and Georgean's children, George (wife, Kathy), and Sandra Hambacher (husband, Jim). Patricia's children, who Bil counted as his own, are Dennis Hamilton, Marvin C. Sauer, P.K. DePadua, and Timothy Matthews. Together they are glad to count 19 grandchildren (LeAnn, Michael L., Jenny, Ryan, Nathan, Cody, Seth, James, Marvin A., April, Katie, Christopher, Matthew, Chase, Andrea, Amity, Amanda, Erin and Kathleen) and 21 great grandchildren (Taylor, Ashley, Emily, Riley, Christopher, Michael A., Dominique, Cailin, Avrie, Justin, Tyler, Angeline, Gage, Syenna, Alana, Keira, Kayla, Brendon, Tiffany, Elijah and Calista). Grandchildren and great grandchildren who live close by often visited and gave him hugs and kisses - reminders of what a lucky grandfather Bil was. Bil was a veteran who served in the US Navy during WWII where he taught swimming to young seamen. He also served in the Pacific aboard the fleet oiler, USS Tamalpais. After an honorable discharge, Bil moved to Douglas and worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad as a signal maintainer. He told many stories of work experiences, some daring and dangerous, while working alongside his brother-in-law Norman. After leaving Southern Pacific, Bil worked for Phelps Dodge, first at the Copper Queen mine in Bisbee and then transferring to the smelter in Douglas. He liked to say that he maintained the electrical systems for the "elephants." His "elephants" were large locomotives that transported and dumped huge pots filled with molten slag. He also had more than a few daring and dangerous experiences while working there. From those experiences, he gained a healthy respect for falling electrical poles and molten slag! Bil was a lifetime member of the Douglas Elks Lodge where he and Georgean, and later, Patricia, donated countless hours working on charitable projects that the club sponsored. He was a trustee and a member of numerous committees. He counted many Elks as his friends, enjoyed their companionship and derived real pleasure in his years of service to the order. His proudest moment as an Elk was when granddaughter Andrea Arnejo was installed as Exalted Ruler of the Douglas Elks Lodge in 2007. Bil also served the Elk's Boy Scout troop for many years, and along with son George, attained the distinction of membership in the Boy Scouts Order of the Arrow. He and George shared many happy memories of times spent at Camp Victorio Boy Scout Camp north of Douglas. Twelve of Bil's children and grandchildren followed his path and joined scouting. Bowling and golf were also activities that Bil participated in for many years. As an original and longtime member of the Elks "Donkeys" bowling team, he had games worth bragging about and a few he probably wanted to forget! He also enjoyed summer mixed bowling and had a great time with his "Bunnies" team. Bil loved to come home from a day of golf and explain in great detail, his exploits on the links. He had many partners that he golfed with over the years who would probably admit that the golf was just an excuse to get together with good friends. Some of his most respected friends and family members who will serve as honorary pallbearers are, Richard Cooksley, Norman Wilson, Luther Thomas, Lawson Barrett, Everett Ralston, Earl Phagan, Charles Miller, Bobby Boss, Archie Burkett, and Dale McDaniel. Bil's life will be celebrated as family and friends gather at his viewing on Friday, November 21st at 7:00 pm at Brown-Page Funeral Chapel and at a Memorial Service to be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, November 22nd at the Elks' Club. A luncheon will follow at the Elks' Club. on November 18, 2008.3
