     Eleanor Ray Singleton was buried at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, 3888 Highway 70 West, Goldsboro, Wayne Co., North Carolina.2,1 She was born on July 26, 1931 at Wilmington, New Hanover Co., North Carolina.2,1 As of circa 1954,her married name was Salkill.1 She married Loren Ephream Salkill, son of Emmett Salkill and Amanda "Mandy" Andrus, circa 1954 at Batavia, Kane Co., Illinois.1 Eleanor Ray Singleton died on November 11, 2014 at Fremont, Wayne Co., North Carolina, at age 83.2,1 She Fremont - Eleanor Ray Singleton Salkill (or as everyone knew her Mrs. Ellie), 83 of Fremont passed away peacefully Tuesday morning with family by her side, and Mr. Loren (husband of 60 years) beside her holding her hand. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 14, 2014 at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Howell Funeral Home in Goldsboro with visitation to follow. Graveside services will be held Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Evergreen Cemetery in Princeton at 11 a.m. Mrs. Ellie was born July 26, 1931 in Wilmington, NC to Rosa Lee Corbett. She grew up in Goldsboro and attended William Street School until she was 16 when she was forced to leave and take care of her 3 sisters after the passing of her mother. From there she moved to Illinois in 1951 looking for work when she befriended Beverly Yount of Mount Vernon, MO. While on a trip down to Missouri she meet Beverly’s brother Loren Salkill and 4 months later they were married in Batavia, Ill. There they lived for another 20 years where they had both daughters Anita Grimes and Alicia Salkill. Finally making their way back to NC where Mrs. Ellie took in foster children and made Randy Salkill one of their own. She was a dedicated member of Stantonsburg Pentecostal Holiness Church for many years. On April 1, 1985 she decided to open Princeton Daycare in a small town, in a little house, with only 13 children she loved and cared her way for almost 30 years through multiple buildings and thousands of children and parents of the community and surrounding areas. She was a mother and grandmother to all of us, and a Saint even to those who she didn’t even know. Her love and enormous heart will forever be missed but continue to shine on through the hearts she touched with her wisdom and the smiles on children’s faces. She was proceeded in death by her mother, Rosa Lee Corbett of Goldsboro; sisters, Nell Ree Daily, Shirley Brand of Chicago, and Johnny Rose Hunt. She was survived by her husband Loren Salkill of Fremont; daughters Anita Grimes and husband Gerald of Fremont, Alicia Salkill of Fremont, and son Randy Salkill and wife Tammi of Fremont; Step brother Jim Combs, Marty Combs, and step sister Norma Jean Walston; Grandchildren Lisa Adams of Fremont, Brandon Grimes of Fremont, Brooks Grimes and wife Casey of Fremont, Zachary Harmon of Fremont, Ashton Grimes and wife Stephanie of Selma, and Kyle Harmon of Pikeville; Great Grandchildren Ashley Peters and husband Matt of Goldsboro, Taylor Adams of Erwin, Gabriel Grimes of Fremont, Garret Grimes of Fremont, Jaden Grimes of Fremont, Peyton Grimes of Fremont, Blakely Grimes of Fremont, and Cayden David Grimes of Selma. on November 13, 2014.1

She was the widow of James Albert Light and is survived by her children, Michael Light and his wife Yalani, Katherine Kuhl and her husband Hank, Frances Molinengo and her husband Hank, Mary Maslow and her husband Mark, Cecilia Durham and her husband Donnie and Margaret Light; 11 grandchildren, Crystal Hensley, Loree Martinelli, Angie Hopf, Jessica Molinengo, Crystal Maslow, Jed Maslow, Iris Maslow, Luke Maslow, Darin Durham, James Light and Austin Light; seven great-grandchildren; sisters & brothers, Frances Blackwell, Gene Sweatman, Robert Keyser, Leona Chubb, Alice Clyne and Lita Keyser. Mrs. Light was retired from the Hopewell Health Dept. as a registered nurse and had previously worked as a RN at the Petersburg Health Dept. for ten years.
