Born on July 12, 1925, at White Sulphur Springs, she was the daughter of the late Delbert Clayton and Lula Glenda Corron Wickline. Doris was a member of Fayetteville United Methodist Church and a member of American Legion Post 149 Ladies Auxiliary. She was a message transmitter for Western Union at Ashford General located at the Greenbrier Hotel during WWII and later in Washington, D.C., after the war where she met her husband of 65 years, William "Bill" Akers. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward "Bill" Akers on August 13, 2011; grandson, Nathan Anthony Mullins; three brothers, D.C. Wickline, Donnie Wickline and Wesley Wickline; and two sisters, Kathleen Alderman and Margaret Casto. Left to cherish many wonderful memories are her children, Peggy Mullins of Fayetteville, Mark and wife Jay of Fayetteville, and Jane O'Leary and husband Barry of Beckley; five grandchildren: Lee Ann Pittman, Clayton and Emily Akers, Destiny Spearen and her husband Richie, Isaiah Brubaker and his wife Sara; great-grandchildren, Sam and Emma Pittman, Maddie Pritt, Willie and Tucker Spearen and Anthony Brubaker; and a host of other family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 27, 2012 at the Fayetteville United Methodist Church, 120 High Street, with Rev. Claire Sulgit-Horn officiating. Burial will be at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville. on April 25, 2012.2
