Reed, Jr., both of Des Moines; siblings, Barb (Bill) Kappelman of California, Betty (Gary) Hood, Mary Swinehart, Janace (Tom) Hanson, Connie Nading, Doran (Barb) Reed, and Bill (Roxy) Reed; two granddaughters, Jennifer Huddleson and Jamie Reed; one great-granddaughter, Brylie Huddleson, all of the Des Moines area; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Jim will be greatly missed and loved by all those who were blessed to have known him. on August 14, 2006.²

He passed away on August 28, 2020. He graduated from Altoona High in 1963. Gary worked at different manufacturing jobs as well as co-owning an auto/lawn repair shop with a brother-in-law. He retired from Ryko Manufacturing in Grimes, Iowa. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 56 years, Betty Hood of Des Moines. He is survived by his son Eric (Jodi) Hood of Des Moines; Grandaughter (light of his life) Rebecca Jane Hood. Two brothers Fred (Mary) Hood of Des Moines and Rodney (Kelly) Hood of Arizona. Two sisters, Judy Michner of Milo and Pamela (Mike) Brown of Des Moines. Brothers-in-law Doran (Barb) Reed of Grimes, Bill (Roxy) Reed of Urbandale, Sister-in-law Roberta “Cookie” Hood of Des Moines. Barb (Bill) Kappelman of California, Mary Swinehart of Des Moines, Jan (Tom) Hanson of Johnston, Connie Nading of Ankeny, as well as many Nephews, Nieces and Friends. Gary is preceded in death by both his father and mother and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Son Gary Hood, Jr. Brother Bobby Hood, Jr, Sister Roberta Livestay, brother-in-law Jim Reed, and 2 nephews and nieces as well as other family and friends. Private burial will be in the Altoona Cemetery. on September 2, 2020.³

She was a homemaker. She is survived by a son and daughter, James T. Reed, Jr. and Terri S. Heaberlin; two granddaughters, Jamie L. Reed and Jennifer F. Huddleson; her great granddaughter, Brylie J. Huddleson; her brothers, Richard (Dick) Eaton and Donald Eaton, Jr., all of Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Ruth Eaton, Sr. on April 6, 2003.¹

Hood Jr., 21, of 4175 N.E. 48th St.. Des Moines, died May 6 at home. The cause of death is pending results of the medical examiner's report. Burial was in Altoona Cemetery in Altoona. Mr. Hood was a lifelong resident of Des Moines. He had boxed in the 1987 Golden Gloves competition. Survivors include his parents, Gary L. Sr. and Betty J. Hood, a brother, Eric T., and his grandparents, Doran and Jane Reed, all of Des Moines. on May 12, 1988.³
