He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at various locations throughout the South Pacific during his service. After his honorable discharge in Mt. Home, Idaho, he came to Sweet Home, and later to Lebanon, where he settled in to work and raise a family. He married his wife Barbara in July 1964, and raised three children, William Jr., Edith and Michael. He became owner and operator of Hosking Supply Co. in Lebanon and later, Western Metal Fab. He volunteered to spearhead a capital campaign aimed at building a new Boys & Girls Club. The culmination of his dedication to the Lebanon community came in 1986, when he was honored as "Man of the Year." He is survived by his wife Barbara of Lebanon; daughter and son-in-law Edith Walsh-Shanks and Kevin Shanks; his son and daughter-in-law Michael Walsh and Paula Walstu; his grandson Christopher LaBelle and his wife Jillian; great-grandchildren Taylor LaBelle and Joshua LaBelle; sisters Christine Shawl, Martha "Goge" Lemons and Diane Moss. His son William Jr. died in 1977. on July 11, 2012.²

Donna Brown, 77, of Sweet Home died Saturday. She was born to Paul and Wilma (Williams) Tredway in 1929. She enjoyed being with her family and church family; going to the beach with her friend, Dixie; reading; and taking care of her home. Donna is survived by sons Steve Brown, and Dwight "Butch" Brown and his wife, Karen, all of Sweet Home; daughter-in-law Judy Hindmarsh; grandchildren Tami Logan, Wendy Younger, Calvin Brown, Malcolm Brown, Alex Brown and Cory Brown; six great-grandchildren; brother Don Tredway of Michigan; and sisters Paralee Welke and Pauline Williams, both of Florida. She was preceded in death by husband, Dwight Brown Sr., son Dennis Brown and brother Paul Tredway Jr. on August 8, 2006.⁴

SWEET HOME - Dennis Wayne Brown, 41, died Monday in a logging accident. He was born in Lebanon and attended schools in Sweet Home, graduating from Sweet Home High School in 1971. A timber faller, he had worked for Willamette Industries and then for McCollum Logging Co. for three years. He worked with the Boy Scouts and was an avid Trail Blazers fan. He also enjoyed the outdoors. He was raised in the Evangelical Church, became an elder in the Cornerstone Fellowship, was a member of the church council and taught Sunday school. On Nov. 19, 1977, he married Judie Gukeisen in Sweet Home. Survivors include his wife; sons, Calvin, Malcolm and Alex, all of Sweet Home; mother, Donna Brown of Sweet Home; and brothers, Butch and Steve, both of Sweet Home. Interment will follow in Gilliland Cemetery. on November 23, 1994.⁵

Steven Loren Brown, 55, of Sweet Home died of cancer Monday at home. He was born to Dwight and Donna (Treadway) Brown. Steve served in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne as a military policeman. He worked in the woods and eventually at the Halsey Paper Mill for the past 10 years. He loved to hunt and camp. He had many, many friends. He will be deeply missed. He is survived by Suzie Caine, his "Sweetheart" and best friend; her two sons Christopher and David; son Corey Brown; three grandchildren; and brother Butch Brown. He was preceded in death by his father, Dwight Brown; mother Donna Brown; and brother Dennis Brown. on September 15, 2012.²

He grew up in Kansas City, Kan., where he graduated from Washington High School in 1969. He joined the U.S. Army that summer and served two years in Germany, before returning to Kansas City to work, primarily as an oil drill operator. He moved to Oregon six years ago, and settled in Lebanon. He was first diagnosed with colon cancer in 1995; the cancer was in remission, but came back in January of this year. Franklin liked riding motorcycles, going to car shows, learning new things and talking with friends and family. Survivors include his mother, Beverly Jean Franklin of Lebanon; a sister, Pamela T. Smith of Lebanon; two brothers, David Franklin of Lebanon and Barry D. Franklin of Kansas City, Kan; an aunt, Barbara Walsh of Lebanon; four uncles, Larry Brown of Lebanon and Carl Brown, Clarence Brown and Billie Joe Brown, all of Sweet Home; two nieces, two nephews and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Bill; two uncles, Fred and Dwight Brown; and two cousins. on April 7, 1999.⁶

She was born in Hillsboro to Howard and Mary Elizabeth (Sigler) Frank, and grew up in Garibaldi, where she graduated from high school in 1938. In 1940 she moved to Vernonia and then to Hillsboro where she worked as a secretary in the courthouse for 10 years. She moved to Sweet Home in 1951 and worked for White's Electronics, before retiring in 1982. She enjoyed crocheting afghans and was a member of the Sweet Home Word of Life Fellowship and was active in the community's senior center. Surviving are daughters Karen Pulis of Sweet Home and Carmen Mosher of Neptune, N.J; brother Roy Frank of Beaverton; sister Lois Sprecher of Hillsboro; three grandchildren and one great grandson. Brothers Elgus and Murvel Frank died before her. Burial will follow in Gilliland Cemetery. on January 9, 1999.⁴
