Alvin Shields Bryant Alvin “Moose” Shields Bryant, 75, of Lynchburg, VA, went to his heavenly home on October 18, 2018. He was the loving husband of Betty Dove Bryant for 53 years. Born Tuesday, March 16, 1943 in Chatham, VA, Alvin was a son of the late Dewey Bryant and the late Naomi Shields Bryant. In addition to his wife, Alvin is survived by two children, Kelly Bryant and Kevin Bryant (Tammy). Two grandsons Kane and Luke Bryant, brother-in-law Floyd Dove Jr., sisters-in-law Nancy Bryant, Christine Bryant, Irene Dove, nieces and nephews, Brian Dove (daughter, Amber Dove), Magen Boone (Aaron and their sons Ethan and Liam), Deborah Stevenson (Mike and their daughter Amy). Angie Pickral (Victor). Granddogs: Juno, Marley, Mako, Lucy, Sampson, Sadie. Grandcats: Hunter, Willie, Panther. In addition to his parents, Alvin was preceded in death by brothers Elmo, Randolph and Bobby Bryant. Alvin was a loving husband, uncle, father and papa and friend. He never met a stranger. He loved all sports, especially watching his grandsons play baseball. He enjoyed watching Heritage volleyball games. He loved family trips and get-togethers. He had a great time playing softball with the Lynchburg Senior Softball Program and going to Big Lick restaurant with all of his friends. Moose loved his Baltimore Orioles and Atlanta Braves. When Kevin married Tammy, our family tripled in size. Moose loved Tammy like another daughter and he was great friends with her Dad, Buddy. He loved all of the family vacations the Bryant’s took with the Moore’s. They were some of the best times shared at the beach. Tammy’s grandmother MaMa and Moose were beach buddies. They loved sitting on the porch together and keeping an eye on all the kids. We all went out to eat and cooked great meals at home. There were many nights there were 8 dozen Krispy Kreme Donuts at the beach house for all to enjoy. Moose loved the Heritage and American Legion baseball boys. He got to know the boys well through grandsons Kane and Luke. He would cheer for all of them just like he was their Papa. Moose was a retired contract mail truck driver for the US Postal Service. Moose will be terribly missed by family and friends, but they know he is in a better place. Alvin’s family would like to thank the staff of Lynchburg Health and Rehab, Guggenheimer Health and Rehab and the Hospice staff for their special care during the past few months.3 He was buried at Sheva Church of Christ Cemetery, 4920 Chalk Level Road, Chatham, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.7 He was born on March 16, 1943 at Chatham, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.3,4 He married Betty Jean Dove on October 15, 1965 at Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.2,3 Alvin Shields Bryant died on October 18, 2018 at Lynchburg, Virginia, at age 75.3
