She was the wife of Kenneth Lee Chumbley, who were happily married for over 53 years. Born May 25, 1946, in Lynchburg, she was the youngest daughter of the late Homer “Red” Garland Gowen, Jr. and the late Mary Thornhill Gowen. Judy was the co-owner of Amherst Insurance Agency and retired as the principle agent in 2012. In addition to her husband, Judy leaves behind her girls, Christy L. Chumbley and Kelly L. Chumbley; granddaughter, Kayleigh E. Chumbley; her spoiled rotten dogs, Romeo and Mischief; her sister, Evelyn Harmon; and a special cousin, Donna G. Mitchell. In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by three daughters, Mary Sue Dayhoff, Jamie Nare, and Mandy Harmon; his step-daughter, Sonya Anderson; his grandchildren; his siblings, Susan Howell, Sheila Partain, Ida Dixon, Shirley Cook, Bill Harmon, and Earl Harmon; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Jim worked as an electrician for Hickey Electric for fifteen years. Outside of work, he enjoyed the outdoors and woodworking, and caring for his goats.
