Frank graduated from Fairfield High School in 1952. He entered the Army in March 1953. During his service in the Army, he was stationed in the Philippines and South Korea. He had achieved the rank of sergeant when he left the Army in 1956. Frank started his service in the Central Intelligence Agency shortly thereafter. It would be the start of a career that would last for 33 years and would take him to many different countries and at times very hostile environments. He loved serving his country and enjoyed the aspect of learning about many different cultures and customs. He also was an avid sportsman and played baseball, basketball and tennis throughout his career. He would play tennis and basketball at almost every duty station. Along with his love of sports, he had an enthusiasm for reading and world politics. He relished the opportunity to read the Washington Post and would have it spread out on the table on most Sunday mornings. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Hoa Butler and his son, Franklin T. Butler and wife, Michelle; grandson, Aidan and granddaughter, Lynden, of Leesburg. Also surviving are five sisters, Harriet E. Vinson, of Greenville, S.C., Martha A. Bryan and Georgia J. Bowers, of Clifton Forge; Loretta M. Bradley, of Leland, N.C., Sylvia F. Camper, of Buena Vista; and one brother, John E. Butler, of Madison Heights. A graveside service for family will be at Mount Carmel Presbyterian Church in Raphine. on March 1, 2013.⁴
