DeWayne Elvin Maples, the eldest son of Mary Elizabeth Kollar Maples and Elvin DeWitt Maples, was born on June 17, 1940 in Highland. He grew up in the Keyesport area and attended the Keyesport Schools. DeWayne answered his countries call by joining the United States Air Force on November 14, 1958 in St. Louis and served overseas for over 11 months before his honorable discharge on January 12, 1961. DeWaye and Mary Primm Linton were united in marriage on August 20, 1961 at the Keyesport Christian Church and enjoyed over 56 years together before Mary's death on November 22, 2017. They are the parents of two daughters who survive: Rosemary Daniels and her husband Brad of Shiloh, and Melissa Schrumpf and her husband Ron of New Douglas, four grandchildren: Jessice and Josey Daniels and Cody and Clayton Schrumpf, and one great-granddaughter Mary Amelia Daniels. DeWayne was also survived by five sisters: Margie (Ted) Carter, Bonnie Linton, Vicki (Bill) Duckworth, Tammy Loggins, Prudence (Ted) Edwards, and two brothers: Johnny Maples and Phillip Maples. DeWayne was preceded in death by his wife and parents. His career included farming, he was a licensed farrier, welder and retired from American Steel in Granite City as a maintenance man. Dewayne enjoyed spending time with his wife and family. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, archery shoots, steer roping, woodworking and camping with family. DeWayne was a former Moose, a member of the V.F.W. Margaret was born November 8, 1941, Highland, IL, the daughter of Elvin D. and Daisy (Kohler) Maples. She married Terry Theodore Carter, in Mt. Vernon, IL and they were together for 62 years. Margaret and Ted lived in several states before moving back to Illinois in 1966. They lived, locally, in Pocahontas, Assumption, Smithboro, for 26 years, and lastly, in Mulberry Grove. She worked as a CNA for the Smithboro Nursing Home, Alhambra Nursing Home, Hillview Manor, and Fair Oaks Nursing Home, both located in Greenville. While working at Fair Oaks, she began nursing school; once she graduated, she started her nursing career at Greenville Regional Hospital, and later transferred back to Fair Oaks Nursing Home, from there, she retired in 2014. Since retirement, she has enjoyed spending time with family, especially the grand & great grandchildren, gardening, and taking drives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ted; a son, Harlan Carter; and siblings, Dewayne and Bonnie Maples.      Bonnie Lou Maples Bonnie Lou Maples, age 77 of Mulberry Grove, Illinois, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home Wednesday, October 6, 2021. Interment will be in Seagraves Cemetery. Bonnie Lou, the daughter of Elvin DeWitt and Daisy Elizabeth (Kollar) Maples, was born January 29, 1944, in Pana, Illinois. She grew up in the Tamalco / Keyesport area, attended local schools and Carlyle High School. Bonnie later got her GED, attended Kaskaskia Nursing College, and graduated with a degree in nursing from Rend Lake. She was a travel nurse for many years and worked at Fair Oaks Nursing Home in Greenville for a number of years. Bonnie and Elmo John Leo Linton were united in marriage on March 31, 1962. They enjoyed several years together and later divorced. Bonnie worked, attended college, got her degree all while being a single mother devoted to her children. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bonnie was an avid quilter and loved sewing. She made dolls, crafted, and loved keeping a journal. When you saw Bonnie, you also saw a large glass of sweet tea with extra lemons not far from her. Surviving are her 3 daughters: Annette Brown and husband Kenny Brown of Mulberry Grove, Toni Dugan and husband James of Mulberry Grove, and Denver and ex-husbnd Rob McCaskey of O’Fallon, Illinois. Loving grandmother of 9: Tyler (Kari) Brown, Tiffany (Tyler) Burns, Teresa (Adam) Cornelius, Steffany (Terril) Moungo, Megan (Trevor) Willms, Cameron Dugan, Kyle Dugan, Robert Louis and Faith McCaskey. She had 11 great-grandchildren: Bubba, Tate, and Toree Moungo; Audrey and Lexie Cornelius; Brynlee, Cade, and Dawson Willms; Emma Brown; Carlie and Brody Burns. She is also survived by siblings: Margaret Carter, Phillip Maples, Johnnie Maples, Prudence Edwards, Tammy Loggins and Vickie Duckworth. Ted was born June 5, 1940, in McKendree, West Virginia, the son of Theodore and Mildred (McKinney) Carter. He married Margaret Maples in Mt. Vernon, IL. After high school, Ted joined the United States Air Force and was a jet engine mechanic. He was honorably discharged after serving his country proudly. He then worked in service stations and body shops for many years, before becoming a truck driver. He retired, after 15 years, from United Stationers. He and Margaret lived in several states before moving back to Illinois in 1966. They lived, locally, in Pocahontas, Assumption, Smithboro, for 26 years, and lastly, in Mulberry Grove. He was fun loving, funny, onery, and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Harlan carter; two brothers, Robert and Roy Carter, and a sister, Lena Carter. In addition to her husband DeWayne, Mrs. Maples is also survived by her daughters – Rosemary Daniels and husband Brad of Nebraska and Missy Schrumpf and husband Ron of New Douglas; 4 grandchildren – Jessica and Josey Daniels, and Cody and Clayton Schrumpf; her sisters – Billie Sansagraw, and Loretah Wilkerson and husband Bruce, all of Keyesport; and a brother - Elmo Linton and friend Donna Hill of Keyesport. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Greenville, IL and a past member of the Nokomis High School FFA. She served in the United States Air Force National Guard of Illinois.
