Charles Edward "Chuck" Houser1,2,3

M, b. February 20, 1952, d. August 8, 2024
Charles Edward "Chuck" Houser Charles E. Houser, 72, of North Liberty passed away peacefully surrounded by those he loved on Thursday August 8, 2024, at his home. Chuck was born on February 20, 1952, in LaPorte, IN to the late George and Ann Lou (Keck) Houser. Chuck graduated from North Liberty High School and was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War, spending the majority of his service in Anchorage, Alaska. He later obtained his Bachelor's Degree from Purdue University North Central. Chuck began dating the love of his life, Janet Clingenpeel, when they were 16 years old. They were both members of the NLHS Class of 1970. The two were married on May 13, 1972, sharing 52 years of marriage. They were blessed with 4 wonderful children and 10 perfect grandchildren. After being discharged from the Army, they made their home in North Liberty, next door to his mom and dad. Over the years "Corn Cob Nob" expanded with his brothers and their families building homes on the Houser compound. The 3 younger boys called themselves the "little stingers" and along with his 2 older brothers, they terrorized the entire neighborhood. (Run for cover! Here come the Houser boys!) When Janet didn't know where he went, she just assumed he was out back looking for friends. Chuck was deeply devoted to his family. He was always looking for ways to help them, even when they didn't need it! Just the slightest mention of something and he was on it. Chuck was employed by J.A. Wagner Construction in Elkhart and proved his worth. He became a part-owner along with his partners, Jim Wagner, Rob Dunlop, Mark Elliott, & Steve Harmon (deceased). They had many employees over the years who were great friends as well. One of his motos was "Never ask someone to do something you are not willing to do yourself". Jim invited him to his ranch in Montana and the rest was history. Chuck and Janet built their second home in the Crazy Mountains where they loved riding 4-wheelers, snowmobiling, and creating great memories with their family and friends. Countless adventures and more than a few disasters were under the direction of our fearless leader. Oh the stories that could be told, and have been, repeatedly. Chuck & Janet never stopped thanking God for allowing them to live in and enjoy His breath-taking creation. Chuck was one of a kind. He was the backbone of most everything he was a part of. He was an integral part of his church and a faithful servant of the Lord. He was always willing to help others and regularly volunteered to do so. Chuck was iron-willed but his joyfulness and spirit were as infectious as his smile. You never knew what he would come up with next or what would pop out of his mouth. He made life fun. Chuck didn't let his battle with pancreatic cancer bring him down, living his life to the fullest until the very end. You would never hear him complain. His surgeon said he'd never had another patient like him and he had the strongest will to live of any patient he'd ever had. During his long battle he continually defied the odds. Deepest thanks go to Dr. Bilal Ansari, Jason Palmateer, and Beth Mondschein at MHO for all of the wonderful care they gave him over the years. Heartfelt thanks are also given for the oncology and radiation staff who made his treatments bearable and for genuinely caring. Chuck's family will forever be thankful for his surgeon, Dr. Nicholas Zyromski, and the wonderful, caring Surgical ICU staff at the IU Health Hospital in Indianapolis. He won them over too, deeply moving Janet and the kids by giving Chuck an "Honor Walk" when he left for home. Chuck will be deeply missed by those he leaves behind: his wife, Janet Houser; children, Jim (Amy) Houser, Julie (Andy) Brinkhoff, Jennifer (Rob) Jackson, and Kari Futa (Justin Zell); his grandchildren, Aubrey (Nick), Abigail, Bryce, Will, Bridgette, Ajay, Taylor, Allie, Bailey, and Mason; and his brothers, Paul, John (Sheila), and Jim (Pat). Many beloved nieces and nephews also survive. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Wanda Lee; his brother, Dennis; and his sister-in-law, Marilyn. Burial will follow with military honors at Westlawn Cemetery, North Liberty.3 He was buried at Westlawn Cemetery, North Liberty, St. Joseph Co., Indiana.3 He was born on February 20, 1952 at La Porte, La Porte Co., Indiana.3 He married Janet Kay Clingenpeel, daughter of Lee Dana Clingenpeel and Martha Marie Stull, on May 13, 1972 at North Liberty, St. Joseph Co., Indiana.1,2,3 Charles Edward "Chuck" Houser died on August 8, 2024 at North Liberty, St. Joseph Co., Indiana, at age 72.3
