     Rosa Lee Birdsong was buried at Cedarwood Cemetery, Kemp Avenue, Roanoke Rapids, Halifax Co., North Carolina.⁵ She Rosa Birdsong Mumford age 87, of Roanoke Rapids, NC passed away Thursday, October 15, 2015, at Signature Health Care in Roanoke Rapids. Mrs. Mumford was born August 26, 1928 in Weldon, NC, the daughter of the late Willie J. Birdsong and Mary Elizabeth Gay Birdsong. She was also preceded in death by her children, Edwin Birdsong, Bobby Birdsong and Nita Birdsong. She is survived by her children, Judy Gibson of Actavista, VA, Rose Huff and her husband Dave of Lemoore, California, Steve Spangler of Hurt, VA, Loretta Bailess and husband Carroll of Hurt, VA and Deloris Pulliam and her husband Gary of Roanoke Rapids. Eight grandchildren, Tammy Birdsong, Robbie Birdsong and his wife Jerri Kaye, Stephen Sloan and his wife Nicole, Ricky “Chubby” Birdsong, Michael Bailess and his wife Shannon, Kevin Bailess and his wife Kelly, Blair Huff, and Mary Beth Reed and her husband Terry. Also eighteen great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Danny Jones officiating.⁵ She was born on August 26, 1928 at Weldon, Halifax Co., North Carolina.^1,3,5 She married James Arnold Spangler, son of Issac Eldridge Spangler and Ethel Beatrice Craighead, on December 8, 1954 at Hertford, Perquimans Co., North Carolina.^1,2,6 As of December 8, 1954,her married name was Spangler. Rosa Lee Birdsong and James Arnold Spangler were divorced on March 25, 1963 at Norfolk, Virginia.^2,6 Rosa Lee Birdsong died on October 15, 2015 at Roanoke Rapids, Halifax Co., North Carolina, at age 87.⁵

     James Steven "Steve" "Spanky" Spangler was buried at Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.⁴ He James Steven "Spanky" Spangler, age 65 of Hurt died Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at his residence. Born July 14, 1955 in Norfolk, he was a son of the late James Arnold Spangler and Rosa Lee Birdsong Mumford. He was predeceased by two brothers, Edwin “Butch” Birdsong, and Robert “Bobby” Birdsong; and one sister, Mary Elizabeth “Nita” Birdsong. Mr. Spangler attended Spring Road Baptist Church; and he was a retired U.S. Navy Veteran where he received a Service Medal. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing. He is survived by four sisters, Linda Gibson of Hurt, Rose “Peanut” Huff and husband, Dave of California, Loretta Bailess and husband, Carroll of Hurt, and Delores Pulliam and husband, Gary of Roanoke Rapids, NC; and nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden by Ronnie Simpson with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232. The family will receive friends at the residence.      Carol Ann McCraw was born on August 4, 1964 at Virginia.³ She married Wayne Franklin Haymaker Jr., son of Wayne Franklin Haymaker and Mary Ruth Spangler, on June 25, 1988 at Virginia Beach, Virginia.^1,2,3 As of June 25, 1988,her married name was Haymaker.³ Carol Ann McCraw died in 1995.¹
