     Paul Daniel "Dan" Spangler Jr. Paul Daniel (Dan) Spangler, Jr. 53 of Roanoke passed away on Monday January 7, 2019 in Roanoke Virginia. A memorial service will be held in Simpson Funeral Home Chapel, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, Virginia 24019 on Wednesday January 16, 2019 at 6:30pm with Pastor Troy Mays officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the service at Simpson Funeral Home until 8:00pm. Simpson Funeral Home will be handling all the arrangements. Dan Spangler was born to Paul D. Spangler, Sr. and Edith Spangler on September 17, 1965 in Roanoke, Virginia. He attended William Fleming High School and graduated in 1983. He worked as an auto parts counter clerk and a delivery person at Basham Oil Company for several years. He enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends, repairing cars, watching football, especially the Chiefs, and racing. Dan went to the Indianapolis 500 on several occasions. He was really into anything about World War II, he liked reality TV, old black and white war movies and westerns. He really loved to listen to rock and roll in his spare time. Dan also enjoyed cooking for his Mom and trying out new recipes. One of his favorite pastimes was playing with his beloved puppy, Nikki. Dan is survived by his mother, Edith Spangler, his sister, Fay Lynn Spangler Perkins, and his nephew, Jonathon Ford Perkins. He is also survived by his aunts, Jean Spangler, Jeanine Spangler, Ruthie Haymaker, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul D. Spangler, Sr. Dan was well-liked and well-respected by everyone. He was a kind and caring son, brother, and uncle with a heart of gold and true and loyal to all his friends, always ready with a helping hand for all. Dan also had numerous friends that he loved and considered as family, such as his “brother” Ricky Kidd, Clayton and Patsy Surratt and family, Dave and Kathy Martin and family, Gary Long, and Terry Steele to name a few.      Donnie Lewis Kidd was buried at Mountain View Cemetery, 1300 Mountain View Road, Vinton, Roanoke Co., Virginia.⁴ He was born on February 10, 1945 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.^2,3 He married Nancy Carol Spangler, daughter of Bernard Matthew Spangler and Dorothy Jean Harris, circa 1966.^5,2,6,4 Donnie Lewis Kidd died on October 13, 2021 at Roanoke Co., Virginia, at age 76.⁴ He Donnie L. Kidd, 76, of Vinton, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 13, 2021. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and had many friends and family. Donnie worked in auto and truck parts and for Harley-Davidson. He sang tenor with the Virginians Quartet. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Nora Kidd; sister, Carol Kingery; and brother, Ronnie Kidd. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 55 years, Nancy; daughter, Nora Eanes; son, Donnie Kidd Jr; grandchildren, Aleisa, Aimee, Brittany, Ashley, Bladen, and Hunter; and great-grandchildren, Cali, Caleb, Collin, Ella, TJ, and Kayleigh.      Rosa Lee Birdsong was buried at Cedarwood Cemetery, Kemp Avenue, Roanoke Rapids, Halifax Co., North Carolina.⁵ She Rosa Birdsong Mumford age 87, of Roanoke Rapids, NC passed away Thursday, October 15, 2015, at Signature Health Care in Roanoke Rapids. Mrs. Mumford was born August 26, 1928 in Weldon, NC, the daughter of the late Willie J. Birdsong and Mary Elizabeth Gay Birdsong. She was also preceded in death by her children, Edwin Birdsong, Bobby Birdsong and Nita Birdsong. She is survived by her children, Judy Gibson of Actavista, VA, Rose Huff and her husband Dave of Lemoore, California, Steve Spangler of Hurt, VA, Loretta Bailess and husband Carroll of Hurt, VA and Deloris Pulliam and her husband Gary of Roanoke Rapids. Eight grandchildren, Tammy Birdsong, Robbie Birdsong and his wife Jerri Kaye, Stephen Sloan and his wife Nicole, Ricky “Chubby” Birdsong, Michael Bailess and his wife Shannon, Kevin Bailess and his wife Kelly, Blair Huff, and Mary Beth Reed and her husband Terry. Also eighteen great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Danny Jones officiating.⁵ She was born on August 26, 1928 at Weldon, Halifax Co., North Carolina.^1,3,5 She married James Arnold Spangler, son of Issac Eldridge Spangler and Ethel Beatrice Craighead, on December 8, 1954 at Hertford, Perquimans Co., North Carolina.^1,2,6 As of December 8, 1954,her married name was Spangler. Rosa Lee Birdsong and James Arnold Spangler were divorced on March 25, 1963 at Norfolk, Virginia.^2,6 Rosa Lee Birdsong died on October 15, 2015 at Roanoke Rapids, Halifax Co., North Carolina, at age 87.⁵

     James Steven "Steve" "Spanky" Spangler was buried at Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.⁴ He James Steven "Spanky" Spangler, age 65 of Hurt died Tuesday, September 22, 2020 at his residence. Born July 14, 1955 in Norfolk, he was a son of the late James Arnold Spangler and Rosa Lee Birdsong Mumford. He was predeceased by two brothers, Edwin “Butch” Birdsong, and Robert “Bobby” Birdsong; and one sister, Mary Elizabeth “Nita” Birdsong. Mr. Spangler attended Spring Road Baptist Church; and he was a retired U.S. Navy Veteran where he received a Service Medal. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing. He is survived by four sisters, Linda Gibson of Hurt, Rose “Peanut” Huff and husband, Dave of California, Loretta Bailess and husband, Carroll of Hurt, and Delores Pulliam and husband, Gary of Roanoke Rapids, NC; and nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Carl O. Moran Memorial Garden by Ronnie Simpson with Military Honors by American Legion Altavista Post 36 and Gretna Post 232. The family will receive friends at the residence.
