Sebert Lester Sisson was born on June 18, 1917 at West Virginia.2,4 He married Ruth Merle Sutphin on July 20, 1945 at Floyd Co., Virginia.1,3 Sebert Lester Sisson died on June 23, 2014 at Virginia at age 97.3 He Sebert L. Sisson, 97, died peacefully on June 23, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ruth Sutphen Sisson; daughters, Mary Jo Sisson-Vaughan of Richmond and Martha Ann Sisson of McLean; two sons-in-law; two granddaughters; eight nieces and nephews; and numerous friends. His formative years were spent in Floyd County and his adult life in Hillsville. Sebert was a proud graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute. After a brief high school teaching career, he worked for Appalachian Power Company for 30 plus years in marketing and industrial development. Sebert Sisson was an avid Hillsville/Carroll County booster and dedicated community leader whose involvement included a term as Mayor of Hillsville, life member & President of the Hillsville Rotary Club, Chair of the Carroll County Industrial Development Authority, Hillsville United Methodist Church Board, Carroll County School Board, founding member of the Upper New River Chapter of the Archeology Society of Virginia, the Wilkinson Cemetery Board, and Carroll County Historical Society/Museum Board. He was also a Mason, managed the Nature Conservancy's Mt. Meadow Preserve, and enjoyed cultivating his vegetable garden and nurturing the best manicured hedges in town. He loved decorating his South Main Street yard for Christmas and, for many years, attending yard sales to gather inventory for his annual flea market booth. Ruth, Mary Jo, and Martha Ann appreciate "honorary" family members Barry and Trish Hicks, Susan and Rick Clark, and Judy and Ernie Miller as well as Richmond nephew, Wes Sisson's continued acts of kindness and support. We commend the staff at Commonwealth Assisted Living, Waddell Rehabilitation Hospital, and Westport Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care provided. We also wish to acknowledge and thank the Hillsville First United Methodist Church for their continued ministry to church members no longer able to attend services. A celebration of Sebert Sisson's life will be held at the Hillsville First United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 11 a.m.. The family will be meeting with friends an hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Sebert Sisson's memory to one of the following organizations which he actively supported Hillsville First United Methodist Church, PO Box 356, Hillsville, VA 24343; the Hillsville Rotary Club, PO Box 1027, Hillsville, VA 24343, or Carroll County Historical Society & Museum, 515 N.      His Social Security Number was 225-78-2281.5 Neal Bruce Hatcher married Deborah "Debbie" Turnipseed, daughter of Robert Turnipseed and Margery Allen.1 Neal Bruce Hatcher was born on January 4, 1953 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.1,2,5 He died on February 11, 2009 at Greensboro, Guilford Co., North Carolina, at age 56.4,5 He Neal B. "Coach" Hatcher, of Greensboro, N.C., passed away peacefully this Wednesday morning, February 11, 2009, from the arms of his family into the hands of God. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2009, for Coach Hatcher at First Baptist Church of Greensboro, N.C., located at 1000 W. Friendly Ave. The family will visit with friends immediately following the service. He leaves behind his wife, Debbie; children, Nick and Suzanne; his devoted dog, Rusty; and his siblings, Reba Goff (Wayne), Norma Roberts (Ralph), and Larry Hatcher (Barbara); along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Additionally he is remembered by the impressions upon the hearts of all who knew him and were effected by his persistence to diligence, faithfulness, and selflessness. Neal's striking work ethic is the quality most cited about him, and few can refrain from remembering his dedication to any task at hand, the latest of which being his stewardship of the Grimsley Athletics Program. As athletic director from 1999 to 2006, his iconic blue Whirlie baseball cap and mustache contrasted with the year-round suntan he bore as he maintained fields, schedules, and other facilities for the students all year round. Including his latest stint at Grimsley High School, Neal gave 31 years of his life to young people across the southeast, teaching and coaching more than just football plays, driving laws, or health skills. After graduating from Floyd County High School in Virginia, he left his family farm and parents, Ivan and Pauline, to attend Emory & Henry College, where his love and knowledge of baseball, basketball, football, and track led him to pursue coaching positions throughout Tennessee and Virginia before moving to North Carolina in 1980. Here he taught and coached at Mooresville and Asheboro until he first arrived at Grimsley in 1987, having accepted an assistant coaching position with the Whirlies. Glenn High School in Kernersville hired him as their head football coach in 1993, where his winning record resulted in his being named the 3-A Coach of the Year by NC Prep News. In 1999 he returned to Grimsley to fulfill his best-known role as Athletic Director, where he labored tirelessly before retiring seven years later. Neal's dedication to athletics and public schools resounded within his true devotion to everyone he knew, and he always committed fully to everything and everyone he could. on February 13, 2009.4
