He was born December 28, 1990 at home in Floyd. Va. Mitchell was a senior at Floyd County High School and was planning to attend Nashville Auto Diesel College. He loved his Ford trucks, hunting, and working on the farm. He was employed by John Blackwell and Junior Custer of Sunnyridge Farms, in Check. He leaves behind his brokenhearted parents, Sherman Lee Hall Sr. and Nancy Baumbach Hall; and brothers, Sherman Lee Hall Jr. and Colton Adam Basham Hall, all of Floyd; grandparents, Thomas Lee and Catherine Louise Blackwell Hall of Christiansburg; greatgrandmother, Eula Belle Williams Blackwell Quesenberry Martin of Floyd; and special friend, Hanna Mae Holt. He was blessed with a large family.      Kenneth Williams Blackwell Kenneth Williams Blackwell, 78, of Floyd, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday December 2, 2021. For many years Kenneth worked at Timber Truss until he was able to retire and work hard to keep his family farm going while also finding great joy in his family. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Hilton Blackwell; parents, Sherman Blackwell and Eula B. Martin; and brother, Rev. Robert Blackwell. He is survived by wife, Kathy Blackwell; two sons, Charles (Janice) Blackwell, and Matthew (Kelly) Blackwell; stepchildren, Lori (Dan) Schantz, and Logan (Ciera) Boyd; grandchildren, Sage Blackwell, C.J. Flinchum, Dusten Flinchum, Mack, Krey Blackwell, Caleigh, Zachary, Caroline, Josiah Schantz, Anna, and Henry Boyd; sisters, Jane Shank, Ileda Shelor, Louise (Thomas) Hall, and Mary (W.B.) Nolen; sister-in-law, Pat Blackwell; stepbrother, Fred Quesenberry; along with several nieces and nephews. Deisher, former chief of the utility tax division in the state auditor's office and whose state-government career spanned 47 years, died in a Charleston hospital today after a long illness, he was 70. A resident of 3311 Virginia Ave., SE, Mr. Deisher first came to the state government in 1913 as a bookkeeper for the old Board of Control and moved to the auditor's office in 1933. He held his post with the tax division for 28 years, retiring in 1960. Born in Botetourt County, Va, Mr. Deisher received his early education in public schools there and attended Daleville College in Daleville, Va., and the National Business College at Roanoke. He was a member of St. Marks Methodist Church here for 48 years, and held membership in Charleston Lodge 153 AF & AM and Scottish Rite Bodies. Survivors are his wife, Lorene Williams Deisher; a daughter, Mrs. B. D. Prescott of Denver, Colo; two sisters, Miss Clyde Deisher and Mrs. S. W. Simmons of Eagle Rock, Va; and two grandchildren. on April 2, 1962.⁶

After retirement she enjoyed arts and crafts, nature, photography, working with the Farm Bureau ladies and trips to Florida with her sisters. Hazel is survived by her husband, Kenneth W. Flinchum; father and mother, Unice and Vada Hylton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise and Curtis Nester, Donna and Jack Simmons; mother-in-law, Eula W. Martin; sisters-in-law and husbands, Nancy Jane and Richard Shank, Ileda and Frank Shelor, Louise and Tommy Hall, Mary and W. B. Nolen; brother-in-law and wife, Robert and Patricia Blackwell; special friend and niece, Kimberly B. She was a retired farmer and an avid gardener until just a few years ago. She loved the Lord and enjoyed reading her Bible, singing hymns and watching preaching on TV. John Luther Blackwell, 78, of Check, VA, went to be with the Lord on Sunday June 1, 2025, John was a man who never met a stranger. He loved to talk; it was common to see his truck setting parked somewhere along Sunny Ridge as he was chatting with a neighbor. He was always quick to give a helping hand to anyone in need and to share his vast knowledge and skill. He graduated from Nashville Auto / Diesel college in 1966. He became an independent welder working on bridges throughout the state. He was also a fifth-generation dairy farmer. John served for many years on the Floyd Co. Farm Bureau Board. He was preceded in death by his parents: Luther Ramon and Arlene Williams Blackwell; older sister: Mildred Blackwell. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years: Betty Roberts Blackwell; their two daughters: Carol Blackwell and Dianna Blackwell Hale; son-in-law: Paul R. Hale Jr, all of Check; six grandchildren: Alexandra Turpin (Austin), Rachel Elkins (Cameron), Jared Custer (Brylie), Paul Ray “Trey” Hale III (Scarlett), Emma Gallimore (Ben), Caroline Hale; nine great-grandchildren: Madison Worrell, Harper Worrell, Kennedy Turpin, Sawyer Elkins, Waylon Custer, Rhett Turpin, Wesley Custer, Atlee Elkins, and Warren Custer; beloved sister: Linda Barlow; sister-in-law: Patricia Palmer (Dave); cousin he considered his brother: Donald McLane Whitlock (Priscilla); dearest friend and neighbor: Robert “Bob” Dietz; a multitude of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
