     Homer Garland Smith Sr. Celebrating the homecoming of Homer G. Smith, Sr., into the arms of his Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, May 21, 2017. He was a World War II veteran having served his country in the United States Army. He loved fishing with his dear friends, Jim Aldridge and Buddy Saunders. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Leigh Smith; son, Homer Garland Smith, Jr; his mother and father, Daniel and Effie Smith; seven brothers; and two sisters. Homer is survived by his wife of 63 years, Yvonne Williams Smith; son, Anthony Smith; daughter, Judi Vest; granddaughters, Cara Wood and husband, Bryan, and Kristen Vest; great grandchildren, Corey, Landon and Kaylee; sisters-in-law, Eva Smith, Claudine Wimmer, Freeda Wimmer and Dorothy Williams; and brother-in-law, Wilson Williams and wife, Carol; many special nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Oakey’s South Chapel on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Copper Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.2 He was buried at Copper Hill Church of the Brethren Cemetery, 8838 Floyd Hwy N. US Hwy 221, Copper Hill, Floyd Co., Virginia.2 He was born on January 22, 1925 at Franklin Co., Virginia.1,3 He married Iris Yvonne Williams, daughter of Alfred Dewey Williams and Grace Salome Nichols, on October 24, 1953 at Franklin Co., Virginia.1,8,9,2 Homer Garland Smith Sr. died on May 21, 2017 at Virginia at age 92.2
