     Shirley Ann Poole Shirley Poole Sweeney, 78, of Roanoke, passed away, Monday, May 4, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband Max Sweeney. She was born in 1936 to the late Dwight and Mildred Ferguson Poole. Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a nurse at Lewis-Gale Hospital and seamstress making many beautiful quilts. She enjoyed traveling, playing scrabble, camping, and traveling with her Shir Shir group. She is survived by her sons, David (Judy), Randy, Darrell; Grandchildren, Rhiannon, Sarah, Mikayla, Aaron, Liam; Great-grandchildren, Maebel, Wyatt; Brother Tommy Poole(Linda); Friends, Marci, Joe, Janie, Bruce and countless more. Special thanks to her best friend for many years, Betsy Davies. It would be impossible to count the number of lives she touched over the course of her life. A Graveside service will be held at Jacksonville Cemetery in Floyd, VA.2 She was buried at Jacksonville Burial Ground, Rt. 8, 0.25 miles south of Floyd, Floyd Co., Virginia.2 She was born on July 30, 1936.1 She married Max Earl Sweeney, son of Major Lee Sweeney Sr. and Margaret Marie Powell, on December 31, 1954.1,2 As of December 31, 1954,her married name was Sweeney.1 Shirley Ann Poole died on May 4, 2015 at Virginia at age 78.2

Lillie Virginia Custer died on March 6, 1955 at Bent Mountain, Roanoke Co., Virginia, at age 81.5,3,4 She Mrs. Lillie Virginia Connor (should be Conner), 81, died at her home on Bent Mountain yesterday. Surviving are four sons, Ernest V. Connor, Nace; Grover J., Daniel R. and Edward O. Connor, all of Bent Mountain: six daughters, Mrs. Lydia Ann Wimmer, Bent Mountain; Mrs. Minnie J. Mills, Mrs. Myrtle Mallory, Mrs. Cassie Campbell, Dora Hollaway, all of Roanoke, and Mrs. Maude Poff, Copper Hill; two brothers, Harden Custer, Roanoke, and Hosea Custer, Christiansburg; 28 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Puckett Cemetery. on March 7, 1955.4

Carylin Sue Slusher died on December 30, 2021 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 76.3 She Carylin Sue Conner, 76, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021. She was born on Tuesday, April 10, 1945, to the late T.C. "Jack" and Lula E Slusher. She was a very sweet and loving mom to Ricky. She loved all her friends and family very much. She will truly be missed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, William Earl Conner; two brothers, Clinton, and Wallace Slusher. Carylin is survived by her son, Ricky, and Ricky's stepson, Tyler; sister-in-law, Barbara Conner; brothers, Jerry and Leon Slusher; and many special nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Tim Wilson officiating. on January 2, 2022.3

Shirley Maenola "Nola" Witkowsi died on January 16, 2008 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 69.2,5 She In the early morning hours of January 16, 2008, Shirley finally rejoined Jack in God's kingdom. Shirley Nola Witkoski Sweeney, 69, of Christiansburg, formerly of Floyd, slipped into heavenly peace surrounded by family at Avant Rehab Center in Roanoke. Born December 22, 1938 in the state of Washington, Shirley was a wonderful person who was loved by all she met, and she truly loved life. She lived life to the fullest, and loved her cat, Boots like her child. She was a devoted wife, and the most wonderful mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend you could ever ask for. Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Jack, her parents, Ben and Helen Witkoski, a sister, Yvonne Braget, and a brother, Jerry Witkoski. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters and son-in-law, Marla Melvin of Christiansburg and Susan and Arlie Hill of Radford; her grandchildren and spouses, Amy and Butch Cook of Fredericksburg, Shana and Brian Griffith of Christiansburg, Daniel Hill of Radford, Kayla Melvin of Radford, and Brandon Hill of Richmond; six and a half great-grandchildren, Madeline, Jack, Emma and Lilly Cook, Onyia and William Griffith, and an unborn great-grandson, Travis Mabe, who is due January 30; a special niece, Deborah Baum of Floyd; her brother and sisters, Bernard Witkoski of South Carolina, Cherie McKinnley of South Carolina, Marla Price of Washington State, and Judy Hendricks of Washington State. Along with many other family members who will miss her dearly, she is also survived by her longtime friends and sisters-in-law, Pauline Sweeney and Daphine Sowers. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2008, at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel, with the Reverend Graham Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at Jacksonville Cemetery. Friends may call at Gardner Funeral Home on Friday after 10 a.m., where the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. The family expresses a special thank you to Avant? of Roanoke for all of the care and support given to Shirley during her stay there. Arrangements are being handled by Gardner Funeral Home, Floyd. on January 17, 2008.2
