Funeral services will be held at the Head of the River Primitive Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family thanks the staff of Skyline Manor Nursing Home for the loving care and attention provided Mrs. Conner. on September 19, 2003.8

Also, Mr. Blankenship was a recipient of the Purple Heart with Cluster. Survivors include: his wife of sixty years, Claudine Agee Blankenship of the residence; sons and daughters-in-law, James E. and June B. Blankenship of Martinsville, Herbert R. and Linda A. Blankenship of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Samuel L. and Betty F. Blankenship of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandchildren, Giles E. Blankenship, Kirk M. Blankenship, Mark D. Blankenship, David R. Blankenship, Michael G. Blankenship, James R. Blankenship and Cynthia L. Blankenship and great-grandchildren, Kenneth G. Blankenship, Naomi G. Blankenship and Davis G. She was a member of the Head of the River Primitive Baptist Church from 1947 to 1958, and member of Roanoke Primitive Baptist Church from 1958 until being called home. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and JoAnn Houchins; granddaughters, Jennifer Houchins and Joyce Armentrout, Randy Armentrout; and great-grandson, Rupert Wayne Armentrout, all of Forest, Virginia; and great-grandson, Christopher Wade of Tennessee; son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Robin Houchins; and grandchildren, Sam, Ben and Sarah Houchins, all of Richmond, Virginia. Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Garlin and Claudine Blankenship of Martinsville, Virginia, sister-in-law, Virginia Fisher of Boones Mill, Virginia, and sister-in-law, Arlene Houchins of Christiansburg, Virginia. Survivors also include many faithful nieces and nephews and many special church friends. Interment to follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family would like to extend a special note of appreciation to the staff of Roanoke Memorial Hospital, and especially the members of the 10 Mountain and 11 West units, for the kindness and compassion shown while providing dignified care and comfort to our mother, and for restoring our faith in those in the medical profession. on May 12, 2005.4

     Arthur Allen Conner was buried at Restvale Cemetery, Rt. 221, Check, Floyd Co., Virginia.9 He Arthur A. Conner, 95, of Copper Hill, Virginia, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2020. He was born on August 18, 1924, to George Landon Conner and Della May Moran Conner in Copper Hill. Arthur attended Check school and later enlisted into the United States Army. He served his country proudly during World War II, traveling through many countries including China and Italy. When his service in the Army ended, Arthur returned home and married Bonnie Conner, also from Copper Hill. He retired from Norfolk and Southern Railroad after many years of employment. He and Bonnie raised seven children. They were married 57 years before her death in 2005. Arthur married again to Ilene Vest Conner in April of 2007, who survives him. He was an accomplished woodworker and was well-known for his talent and craft of making fiddles and other stringed instruments. Arthur loved bluegrass music, playing and listening, and talking with other musicians. He also enjoyed fishing and visits from his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Arthur was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Lemmie Conner; his sister, Minnie Conner; his son, Michael Allen “Mickey” Conner; and his son, John William Conner and wife, Bonnie Jasper Conner. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Ilene Vest Conner; sister, Emmie Conner of Floyd; daughter, Brenda Galyean (Luther) of Copper Hill; daughter, Katherine Giles (Clay) of Copper Hill; son, Thomas “Tommy” Conner of Shawsville; daughter, Mary Elkins of Statesville, North Carolina; daughter, Sandra “Sandy” Dehart of Troutville; stepchildren; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. A Visitation will be held from 2 until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2020, at Oakey’s South Chapel. She was preceded by her parents, Jasper and Elizabeth Ann Conner; and by her 13 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her husband, Arnold Leon Link; sons, Wayne Link, Dwight Link (Debbie Phillips), and Terry Link; daughter, Melinda L. Combs; brother-in-law, Arthur Conner (Ilene); and grandchildren, Brian Combs and Angela Combs. Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2015, at Salem Primitive Baptist Church (Head of the River) with Elder Alan Terry officiating with interment in Restvale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2015, at Maberry Funeral Home.3 She was buried at Restvale Cemetery, Rt. 221, Check, Floyd Co., Virginia.3 She was born on January 24, 1930 at Floyd Co., Virginia.1,2 She married Arnold Leon Link, son of Coy Link and Minerva Essie Bell, on July 29, 1950 at Floyd Co., Virginia.1,4,5,2,7,8,3,10 As of July 29, 1950,her married name was Link. Mr. Dockery served in the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant in the 104th Timberwolf Infantry during World War II. He was a member of Taylor Masonic Lodge, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and Roanoke Moose Lodge #284. He was predeceased by a son, Richard Dockery. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, February 16, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Fort Lewis Rescue Squad or the Edgewood Christian Church Benevolence Fund. on February 16, 1998.2
