     Samuel Dean "Sammy" Vest Samuel "Sam" Vest, September 06, 1954 - December 08, 2023. Samuel (Sam) Vest 69, went to meet his Lord and Savior on December 8, 2023 at Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC. He was preceded in death by his father: Otha Dean Vest and his daughter: Hope Vest. Sam is survived by his wife: Janice Vest, Myrtle Beach, SC; son: Michael Vest (Brenda), Floyd, VA; mother: Dolly L. Vest, Pilot, VA; sister: Cindy Robertson (David), Draper, VA; brother: Tim Vest (Marsha), Statesville, NC., and mother of his children: Carolyn Vest, Myrtle Beach, SC; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and firefighter friends in Virginia and South Carolina whom loved him dearly. Sam was a devoted firefighter whom held many positions including starting the Locust Grove station 3 in Floyd County where he became chief, worked many years as firefighter/paramedic at the Radford Army Ammunition Plant, and held many ranks including President of the southwest Virginia Fireman’s Association. In 1995 Sam moved his family to Myrtle Beach where he continued his firefighter career for the City of Myrtle Beach Fire Department. He ended his career at the rank of Lt. of fire investigator/inspector. He was past president of IAAI in South Carolina and was presented with a lifetime membership by the current president. Barry was born on September 29, 1949, in Roanoke, Va. He was the son of the late Ernest Wimmer "Bill" Hoel and Edith Juanita "Nita" Cayton Hoel. Barry was a simple man. He loved hotrods, antique cars, and trucks. He was also an avid Harley Davidson fan. He enjoyed working on all the above and tinkering with his hands. He often, could be found turning a wrench in his garage. He was loved dearly by his family and will be missed by all that knew him. Susan was born on January 18, 1950 in Marion, Va. She was the daughter of the late Garland Stanley Hedrick and Wilma Jones Hedrick. She retired from the Virginia Health Department after 30 years of service. To Susan family was her priority. She loved collecting jewelry, Longaberger Baskets and Boyd's Bears. Once Susan retired, she was able to enjoy her love of animals as well by volunteering at the S.P.C.A and the animal shelter. She was loved dearly by her family and everyone who encountered her. She will be dearly missed. They are survived by two sons, Todd Hoel and his wife, Mary, Chad Hoel and his wife, Amanda: two grandchildren, Stacee Hoel and Vance Hoel. Also surviving are many friends. A graveside service for Barry and Susan will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2020, at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke. on November 1, 2020.⁵
