Lester Wells officiating. Mrs. Harry Stein will be organist and Ella McArtor and Sue Smyth will sing "Whispering Hope" and "Beyond The Sunset."
Casket bearers will be E. J. Hook, Howard Williamson, Orval McArtor, Delbert Wart, S. G. Sheets and John Lewis. Interment will be in the Enterprise cemetery.
Mr. Wood had been in failing health for the past five years and had been a patient in Wallowa Memorial Hospital for six months. He passed away there on Saturday, September 21, 1963.
He was born February 23, 1881 at Sweet Home, son of John D. and Martha Wood. He had lived in Wallowa county for 63 years and was a skilled carpenter. On October 3, 1919 he was married at Enterprise to Violet Maude (Hearing) Childers, who passed away on June 15, 1951. He was a member of the Christian church and an honorary elder.
He is survived by four daughters: Mrs. Ruth Nuxall of Pendleton; Mrs. Everett (Norma) Goodale of Sacramento, Calif; Mrs. Uley (Georgia) McGinnis of Enterprise; and Mrs. Lulu Dimmick of Joseph; one son, Howard Childers of Joseph; three sisters, Mrs. Abbie Mayfield and Mrs. Lillie Nye, both of Portland; and Mrs. Sam (Verda) Knight of Joseph; 13 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. on September 26, 1963.2

Verda was born Oct. 9, 1917 in Lostine, Oregon to George Finley Childers and Mary Eliza Hearing Childers. Verda was a long-time member of the Christian Church. She married Vernon Davis on Sept. 19, 1935. They made their home in Wallowa, Ore. where their son Dick was born. Lucinda and Lynnette followed several years later. The family moved to Emmett, Idaho in 1944 where Vern operated the Emmett Dairy. Verda's positive loving demeanor touched countless lives. She was the nucleolus of her family, and was known by her grandchildren as "Saint Verda." She was a talented woman, loving to share her love for flowers, the outdoors, quilting, cooking and canning with her children and grandchildren. She won many awards and blue ribbons for her beautiful quilts. She was an avid reader and loved studying birds and watching them out her window. She always kept fresh flowers, and a full candy dish in her home. It was her signature. She taught her girls that "Every day I wake up and I choose what kind of a kind of a day I will have. I can choose to be happy or I can choose not to be happy. I always choose to be happy." Vernon passed away in 1963. Verda and Dick continued to operate the dairy for many years. Verda married George Moeller in 1974. They enjoyed gardening, fishing and making a home together. George passed away in 1987. Verda was preceded in death by her parents, her six siblings, her husbands Vern and George and her son Dick. She is survived by her two daughters, Cinda (Jay) Jensen, and Netti Bain of Emmett and her son-in-law Dan Bain of Emmett. Her Grandchildren, Rick (Terry) Davis of Eagle River Alaska, Buzz (Chris) Davis of McCall, Tim Willis of Boise, Jeff Ulmer of Kuna, Andrea (Mark) Penner of Caldwell, Jill (Buck) Nash of Emmett and Amy Willis of Astoria, Ore. and step Grandchildren, Jayna (Ken) Eichelberger; Laurie (Tim) Bean; Rene' Jensen; Dan (Shauna) Bain; and Shawna Bain Ulrich. Her great-grandchildren were also her delight. They are Christine Davis, Phillip Davis, Jerry Nash, Ian Nash, Maggie Penner, Cole Penner and Sam Willis as well as her step great grand children, Tyler and Robbie Bain, Jaymie Jensen, Kenja Eichelberger and Logan Ulrich. Memorials may be made to Verda's favorite charity CERT a Christian education program for high school students. We are honored to give special thanks to the wonderful caregivers at the Emmett Cottages, to XL Hospice and to Dr. Jim Thomson for their care and love of our mother and grandmother, Verda. on August 19, 2008.2
