     John David Thompson was buried at Powell-Thompson Cemetery, Route 28/6, Elgood, Mercer Co., West Virginia.5 He was born on January 14, 1841 at Oakvale, Mercer Co., West Virginia.2,6 He married Nancy Emily/Emma DeWeese, daughter of Andrew Jackson DeWeese and Rozena Hall, on December 5, 1865 at Oakvale, Mercer Co., West Virginia.1,2,4,7 John David Thompson died on April 4, 1931 at Tophet, Mercer Co., West Virginia, at age 90.5 He John D. Thompson, 90 years old, one of Mercer county's oldest and widely known pioneers died at the home of his son, J. W. Thompson, near Tophet, W. Va., Saturday, April 4. Pneumonia and complications caused death. Mr. Thompeon waa a lifelong Republican, and cast his first vote for Abraham Lincoln for president. He was the youngest son of a family of four children, all of whom preceded him to the grave. A brother and sister also attained the age of ninety yeare. Funeral service waa held in the Mountain View Baptist church and was conducted by the Rev. Z. F. Maybeury on Monday afternoon. This was the church that Mr. Thompson financed and built more than a half century ago. He is survived by his widow, four daughters and three sons: J. D. Thompson, of Bluefield, W. Va; J. W. Thompson, Tophet, and P. L. Thompson, Princeton; Mrs. C. E. Powell, Elgood; Mrs. Lewis Bowling, Remington, Va; Mrs. Fred Gore, and Mrs. Edd Gore, of Princeton. He leaves fifty-one grand children and twenty-four great grandchildren. Interment took place in the family cemetery near Elgood. on April 10, 1931.5

Fla; five grandchildren. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Burns Wornal Chapel of the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with the Rev. John King officiating. Burial will be in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens on the Courthouse Road in Princeton. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. on February 1, 1995.5

He was born in Princeton, W.Va., and lived many years in the Roanoke, Va., area and in Chicago, Ill., before moving here in 1964. He was a student minister at the Luxemborg Presbyterian Church, Wharton, in 1932 and 1933. He was pastor of the Cole City Presbyterian Church, Cole City, Ill., and other Presbyterian churches in the Pittsburgh area for many years. He retired as assistant city editor from the "Paterson News" and suburban editor of the "Morning News," Paterson, in 1976, after working there for 12 years. Prior to that, he was a substitute editor for the "Chicago Sun Times" while working as the editor of "Philosophy and Religion" departments at the Chicago Publishing Co. He is survived by his wife, Kay, a son, Fred, Long Island, N.Y; a daughter, Barbara Kaye French; a sister, Alice Marsico; and four grandchildren. on January 18, 1985.3
