George loved to tend bar and worked weekends at Johnny's Tavern and Polumbo's Restaurant in the early 1980s. Also on the weekends he worked for the Holiday Inn-Airport and operated a small lawn mowing business in the Vinton area. In the late 1980s he worked as an independent sub-contractor for Siemens Medical alongside his son-in-law, Mark. In his spare time, he liked to garden and "fish for trout" on the Roanoke River near Elliston. George is survived by his daughters, Melanie Carr Steinle and son-in-law, Mark, of Murrells Inlet, S.C., and Jill Carr of Vinton; and his brother, David Carr of Vinton. His family would like to thank Berkshire Health and Rehab for the excellent care he received while a resident there. A Private Inurnment will be held at Mountain View Cemetery in Vinton. on February 23, 2017.3
