He was the owner and operator of Sowers Machinery for many years. Mr. Sowers was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, McDaniel Lodge #86 AF & AM, the Kazim Shrine Temple and the Gideons. Surviving are his wife, Elsie Bower Sowers; daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Sowers Whiteley and G.P. Whiteley, Rockbridge Baths; son and daughter-in-law, Harry Glen Sowers and Sherry Corbett Sowers, Miami, Fla; grandchildren, Todd Cook and Betsy Cook, both of Richmond, Joe Sowers and Chris Sowers, both of Blacksburg, Sarah Sowers Kakiuchi, Wakayami, Japan. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 29th, at St. Paul United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Doug Kanney. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery with masonic graveside rites. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church or to the Gideons. Friends may call any time Friday at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. At all other times the family will receive friends at their Christiansburg home. Arrangements are being handled by Richardson-Horne Funeral Home. on March 27, 1997.1

Howery, on October 18, 1937 at Floyd Co., Virginia.1,6,10 Woodrow Eli "Woodie" Blackwell died on May 16, 1987 at Carlisle, Cumberland Co., Pennsylvania, at age 72.5,6 He ASPERS - Woodrow E. Blackwell, 72, of 205 Lobaugh Road, Aspers, died Saturday morning, May 16, 1987, at the Carlisle Hospital. He was born in Check, Va., but has resided in Pennsylvania for the last 46 years. He was a son of the late J. Arthur and Nancy M. Spangler Blackwell. Blackwell was a World War II veteran, serving with the Army. He had been a fruit farmer and was also employed by the former C. H. Musselman Co., Gardners, and Duffy-Mott Co., Inc., Aspers. His first wife, the former Nina M. Williams, died in 1963. He is survived by his wife, Judy Ann Divel Blackwell; two daughters, Carol J. Byers, East Berlin Road, York Springs; and Pauline B. Shultz, 738 Latimore Road, York Springs; two sisters, Velma A. Radford and Lydia Whitlock, both of Floyd, Va; five grandchildren; and four-great-grand-children. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday from the Dugan Funeral Home, Bendersville, with the Rev. James A. Dowless and the Rev. John S. Goff, officiating. Burial will be in Biglerville Cemetery. on May 18, 1987.6
