DeWeese died in a Pittsburgh hospital at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday after a two-year illness. The Rev. Dewey Wilson will officiate at services with burial following in the McKinney Cemetery at Sophia. DeWeese was a Sophia resident until he moved to Pittsburgh six years ago. The body will remain the Williams Funeral Home until the funeral hour. He is survived by his father, Peter DeWeese, of Affinity, two brothers, William A. DeWeese, Beckley, and J. K. DeWeese, of Affinity; and two sisters, Mrs. Nettie McKinney, of Midway, and Mrs. Bessie Stone, of Sophia. on January 13, 1950.5

No hope for his recovery had been felt by physicians and members of his his family from the time of the accident. The body was to be taken from the Rose Funeral Home this afternoon to the Bryson residence on Maple Meadow, where funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Reverend Grant Stephens, of Cirlsville, will conduct the services. Burial will be made in the family cemetery on Maple Meadow. Bryson is survived by his widow, Mrs. Rosina Bryson, and three children, Dorothy May, aged three; Dale Bryson, aged five, and Lawson Bryson, seven years old. Brothers are A. F. Bryson, of Smith street, Beckley; O. A. Bryson, of Glen Morgan, and W. H. Bryson, of Lester. One sister, Mrs. Crockett Shumate, also resides at Lester. He was the son of the late Manser Bryson, and widely related in the county. Pallbearers for the funeral will be Fleet Davis, Pete Brown, George Smith, Henry Brown, Richard Mankin, and Charles Cochran. on October 17, 1933.5 He died on October 17, 1933 at Beckley, Raleigh Co., West Virginia, at age 35.1,4,5

Born Aug. 24, 1886, at Maple Meadow in Raleigh County, he was a son of the late Manser and Mary DeWeese Bryson. He was a lifelong resident of Raleigh County and had been employed with Elkins Distributors, Inc. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Beckley, the Beckley Masonic Lodge No. 95, and the Royal Arch Masons Chapter 38. He was married to the former Dixie Crouse of Maple Meadow Oct. 22, 1911. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1971. He was also a former justice of the peace and served on the board of education of Trap Hill District when Trap Hill High School was built. Survivors other than his wife include three sons, John Bryson of Charleston, Fred Bryson of Orlando, Fla., and Robert Bryson of Ft. Wayne, Ind; one sister, Mrs. C. N. (Lillie) Shumate of Lester; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Calfee Funeral Chapel in Beckley with Dr. Kenneth Schwank and Rev. David Jones officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Tabor Cemetery in Beckley. Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today. Pallbearers are Tom Elkin, Bill Elkin, Ray Sweeney, W. F. Weaver, Nolan Gunter, Paul Gunter, Bernard Canterbury, and Bill Redmond. on December 5, 1972.5

He was married to the former Lurecia Acord who survives him. Other survivors include one son, W. H. Bryson of Ft. Greely, Alaska; one daughter, Mrs. Bud Allen Jr., of Newport News, Va; one sister, Mrs. Crockett Shumate of Lester and one brother, A. F. Bryson of Beckley. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m., at the Akers Baptist Church, with Rev. Dewey Akers and Rev. Stollie Parsons in charge. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in Bryson family Cemetery at Maple Meadow. Pallbearers will be Ed Birchfield, Glen Shumate, Ralph McKinney, Clarence Birchfield, Winfred Daniel and Billy Milam. The body is at Melton Mortuary where friends may call after 5 p.m. today. on August 31, 1964.3

She is survived by two step-daughters, Margaret Frame (Peggy) and husband, Clark Frame, and Jane McConkey and her husband, Dr. Sam A. McConkey; four step-grand-children, seven great-grandchildren; and cousins, Mary Alice Zeller and Wanda Lee Nelle McGinnis. Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Melton Mortuary, Beckley, with the Rev. Dan Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. on October 19, 2004.4

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert F. Bryson, on Dec. 4, 1972. Mrs. Bryson was affiliated for many years with the First Baptist Church of Beckley, where she was head of the Dorcas Society until ill health caused her retirement. She was active in the Ann Rose Sunday School Class there, as well as Circle No. 6. She was also a member of Unit No. 32 of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Raleigh County Navy Mothers Club, the Civic Department of the Women’s Club of Beckley, and the Raleigh County Chapter of the Society for Crippled Children. In addition, she served on the city of Beckley’s Human Rights Commission. She is survived by three sons, John of Charleston, Fred of Altamonte Springs, Fla., and Robert of Fort Wayne, Ind; two sisters, Vaughtie (Mrs. R. B.) Callison and Ennis (Mrs. Howard) McAltee, both of Beckley; one brother, Clay S. Crouse of White Oak; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Shirley Donnally, former pastor of the Crab Orchard Baptist Church, will conduct the services assisted by Rev. David Jones of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. Burial will follow at the Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m at the Calfee Funeral Home. Pallbearers will include Jim Patton, Billy Tully, Wiley Weaver, Robert Thomason, Robert Lee Stewart, and Paul Gunter.

Bryson and Elizabeth Carl Coleman were divorced before December, 1945.10 Robert C. Bryson married Anamae Ballard on December 13, 1945 at Detroit, Wayne Co., Michigan.4,11,9 Robert C. Bryson died on November 1, 2014 at Fort Wayne, Allen Co., Indiana, at age 97.9 He ROBERT C. BRYSON, of Fort Wayne, passed away Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014 after a long illness. He was born Feb. 12, 1917, in Eccles, W. Va., and grew up in Beckley, W. Va. A veteran of World War II, where he served in the U.S. Army, he graduated from Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich., before moving to Fort Wayne in 1954. He worked at New York Life Insurance Co., where he was a pioneering agent in the city's life insurance industry. Challenging the gender barrier in sales, he mentored women agents. He won numerous awards, and worked actively until his retirement in 1997, at age 80. He was known for his dawn swims, hitting the pool at 5 a.m. every morning into his mid 90s. Through a skydive in 2008, he earned the distinction of being the oldest person to tandem skydive in Indiana, and the third-oldest in the country. "He reasoned that if the parachute failed and he hit the ground hard enough, he would save on burial expenses". He was active in the American Civil Liberties Union. "He was a friend to the friendless". Surviving are his son, Neil (Nancee) Bryson of Fort Wayne; daughter, Elaine (Ted Yasuda) Siegel of Evanston, Ill; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Lawson of Moundsville, W. Va; five grandsons, Peter Bryson of Virginia, Scott (Amanda Sarasien) Bryson of Fort Wayne, Aaron Bryson, of Carmel, Ind., Aaron Lawson of Moundsville, W. Va., and Myles Yasuda of Evanston, Ill; and two granddaughters, Denise Lawson, of Morgan-town, W. Va. and Toshiko Yasuda of Evanston, Ill. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anamae Ballard Bryson; and his son, the Rev. James Lawson of Moundsville, W. Va. on November 16, 2014.9

Gunter Toney, 94, joined his wife in heaven on June 26, 2018. Gunter was born on April 17, 1924 in Beckley, West Virginia. He joined the Navy in 1941 and served as a Chief Petty Officer in World War II in both the Pacific and Atlantic theaters. Gunter became a devoted husband to his sweetheart, Evelyn Bailey Toney, on June 22, 1944 and spent his years in the military writing hundreds of love letters to his wife back home. After an honorable discharge in 1947, the Toneys moved to Florida where Gunter earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Florida. The couple moved to Tallahassee, Florida where they ran a successful law practice and raised two children. Members at East Hill Baptist Church since 1955, the Toneys loved their church family. In 2004, the Toneys moved to be closer to family in Jacksonville, Florida. Gunter loved jokes, politics, Gator sports, playing golf, and spending time with family. Gunter was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Toney, and his son David Toney. He is survived by his daughter Susan Toney Highsmith (Bob), and five grandchildren: Kirk Toney, Lisa Toney Bedrosian (Danny), Gunter Toney, Jennifer Highsmith, and Robert Highsmith. He also is survived by three great-grandchildren, Damien Toney, Ani Bedrosian, and Elijah Toney. The family will be holding a visitation at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home- Riggins Road Chapel in Tallahassee, Florida on Friday, June 29 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. A celebration of Gunter's life will take place at East Hill Baptist Church on Saturday, June 30 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a brief graveside service at Tallahassee Memory Gardens. on June 28, 2018.4

Davis, a resident of Harper, was killed instantly when crushed by a motor in the Eccles mine yesterday morning. An exploding cable caused Davis to jump from the motor he was riding, and the motor ran over his body, crushing him badly, it was reported. He was born at Mount Tabor, on June 19, 1918, the son of William Isaac and Elvira Gunter Davis, and was a member of the Mount Tabor Baptist Church and of the local union No. 5770 at Eccles. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Margie Minor Davis; two brothers, Calvin George Davis, of South Charleston, and Enos Jackson Davis, of Mount Tabor; and three sisters, Ina Willa, Mary Ann and Margaret Rose, all of Mount Tabor, and one daughter, Sally Sharlene Davis, at home. The body was returned to the parent's home at Mt. Tabor this afternoon to remain until the funeral hour. Active pallbearers will be Jack Robinette, Ernest Honaker, Basil Williams, Glen Hall, Cecil Byrd, Holley Hobbs, Bill Willard, and William Burleson. on May 8, 1942.4

Jack moved to Huntington with his new bride in 1953 where they built their new life together. They raised their children, were involved in their local community and attended church regularly. Jack was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, a member of the Masons # 52 AM&FM, and was a member of the Kenova United Methodist Church. During his life, he served as a Sunday school teacher and deacon, was a midget league football coach, and lobbied for the creation of Westmoreland Park. Jack always had a passion for gospel music, telling a joke, and in later years, golfing. Jack was a retired project manager of 30 years in the federal government. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kenova United Methodist Church, located at 503 15th St. in Kenova. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15, at Kenova United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lindsay Thorp officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions in honor of Jack's commitment and service to God can be made to the Kenova United Methodist Church's Music Program. He will be buried at the Tom Lilly Cemetery in Ghent, W.Va. Pallbearers will be David Hall, Billy Rutherford, Charlie Davis, Bob Trent, Fred Robinson, and Frank Rutherford. Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova is in charge of the arrangements. on March 14, 2006.4
