Born July 25, 1905, at Lamont, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Cora Keeney Lafferty. She was a member of the Gatweood Brethren Church. Survivors include her husband, Walter E; two sons, Stanley and Darrell, both of Oak Hill; two daughters, Mrs. Bessie Cook of Hotchkiss and Mrs. Ernestine Fitzpatrick of Yuma, Ariz; three sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Fenney and Mrs. Estelle Myers, both of Chula Vista, Calif., and Mrs. Beatrice Wall of Akron, Ohio; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Gatewood Brethren Church with the Rev. William Skelton and the Rev. Bill Menefee in charge. Burial will be in the Huse Memorial Park in Fayetteville. Friends may call at the Dodd-Payne Funeral Home in Fayetteville 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to services. on August 12, 1976.1

     Bessie Mae Goff Bessie Mae Cook, 90, of Slab Fork, WV passed away at home on Monday, September 25, 2017. Born June 3, 1927 in Gatewood, WV, she was the daughter of the Walter Goff and Maggie Mable Lafferty. Bessie was a member of Hotchkiss Church of God. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Cook; daughter Lisa; two brothers, Darrell, and Stanley; and one sister, Ernestine. Those left to cherish her memory include three grandchildren; three great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to her caregivers, Linda and Charlotte and Hospice of Southern West Virginia. Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley.
