     Bernard Hartwell Moss was buried at Highland Burial Park, Danville, Virginia.2 He was born on August 23, 1933 at Gretna, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia.3,2 He married Barbara Unknown circa 1956.2 Bernard Hartwell Moss died on July 12, 2010 at Virginia at age 76.3,2 He Bernard Hartwell Moss - B. H. Moss went home to be with his Lord on Monday, July 12, 2010, after several months of declining health. He was a Gretna native but resided in Danville the last 38 years. Born August 23, 1933, to the late Bernard Ray and Myrtle P. Moss of Gretna, VA. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara C. Moss and four children; daughter Sara McDowell and husband Ray of Ringgold, daughter, Wendy Wilson and husband Gary of Blairs, daughter Rhonda Moss of the residence and daughter Kim Williams and husband Bryan of Keeling. Mr. Moss is also survived by five grandchildren; Brandon McDowell of Florida, Kristie McDowell of Ringgold, Brittney & Brad Wilson of Blairs and Caleb Williams of Keeling. He is also survived by one sister, Betty Amos of Gretna and two brothers, Ronnie Moss of Gretna and Randy Moss of Hurt. He was predeceased by one brother, Dan Moss of Gretna, VA. Hartwell retired from the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Department where he was a 21 year veteran and worked as a Criminal Investigator. He worked many tireless days and nights to improve the safety of the county that he grew up in and loved. He was a founding member of the Gretna Rescue Squad and Fire Department and served as the Captain of the Rescue Squad for several years. He was also a former member of the Gretna Jaycees. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. His family was his pride and joy and they will especially miss their "Hero". A service celebrating his life will be held at the Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, July 14th. at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Carl Burger and Ronnie Simpson officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park. The Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Department will provide a Color Guard ceremony at the graveside. The family will receive friends at Swicegood Funeral Home on Tuesday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and at other times at the daughter's residence of 1152 Ringgold Depot Road in Ringgold, VA. The family respectfully request in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Danville Life Saving Crew, 202 Christopher Lane, Danville, VA 24541. Swicegood Funeral Home is serving the Moss family. on July 13, 2010.2
