He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean War. After military duty, he worked for 35 years at the U.S. Postal Service starting as a Mail Carrier and progressed to different positions. At retirement, Bob was the Postmaster at the Buchanan, Va. location. Bob and Estelle retired to Homosassa, Fla. for many years before returning to Roanoke. Bob's friends and family will miss his jovial spirit, conversation and storytelling. Bob is survived by his loving wife, Estelle Gearheart; daughter, Robin and Phil Delpierre; son, Alan and Julie Gearheart; grandchildren, Josh Delpierre, Jennifer Knarr, Christina Gearheart, and Mary Francis Scott; great-grandchildren, Taylor Gearheart, Colton and Connor Knarr, and Kylee Bungard; along with many nieces and nephews. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. on December 3, 2019.⁵

Gearheart, 89, of Roanoke, Virginia, was called to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 3, 2022. Estelle was born on June 7, 1933, to the late Joseph and Angie Bolling, growing up on the family farm in Bedford with a large family of 12 brothers and sisters. She was married to the late Robert (Bob) Gearheart in a loving marriage of 57 years. Together in Roanoke, they raised three children, Robin, Alan, and Lisa. Later in retirement, they spent many years living in Homosassa Florida, before returning to Roanoke, Va. Estelle worked several jobs including Mick or Mack Groceries, Sav-A-Stop and retiring from First Baptist Church. Sharing time with family was always a passion of Estelle's, as well as church and gardening activities. Estelle was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and daughter, Lisa. She is survived by three sisters; one brother; daughter, Robin and Phil Delpierre; son, Alan and Julie Gearheart; and grandchildren, Josh Delpierre, Jennifer Knarr, Christina Gearheart, and Mary Francis Scott; and great-grandchildren, Taylor Gearheart, Colton and Connor Knarr and Kylee Bungard. The Graveside Service will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. on December 6, 2022.⁴

He was the son of Walter Lee McManaway and Ellen Boaz Huddleston McManaway of Bedford. He was born in August, 1902. He grew up attending Bedford Co. schools and training in farming on his father's farm near Thaxton. He served with the U.S. Navy's newly formed Air Fleet after World War I, then joined the U.S. Postal Service. On retiring in 1959 he received the Postmaster General Superior Achievement Award for outstanding performances of duties. He spent his early retirement years with Cell-0-Lite Block Co. A lifelong Baptist, he made his profession as a youth to the congregation of Mt. Zion. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mrs. Ellie Gearheart McManaway; one son, J. W. McManaway, Jr; two grandchildren, Dr. James McManaway, Durham, N.C; and Mary Dallas, Texas; one great-grandchild, Ann Michelle McManaway; two brothers and five sisters. A graveside service will be conducted at the Gearheart Family Cemetery on Mayfield Drive near Mt. Pleasant. on July 19, 1988.³
