Mrs. Mohwinkle died of a heart attack Monday, December 28, while driving an auto near her home. She was born May 16, 1919 at Gooding. She attended schools here. In 1937 she graduated from Gooding High School. January 7, 1942, she married Edd Mohwinkle in Gooding. For 12 years she worked in the dry cleaning department of National laundry. The past six years she was employed at Carter Cleaners. A member of the Gooding First Methodist Church, she taught in Primary Sunday School for 20 years. Surviving are her husband; her mother, Mrs Frances Evilsizer, Gooding; seven sisters, Mrs Leslie (Ladine) Hendrix, Twin Falls; Mrs Opal Wonacott, San Jose, CA, Mrs Charles (Lucille) Hoodenpyle, Redondo Beach, CA; Mrs Roy (Mary) Burkitt, Redondo Beach, CA; Mrs Charles (Eula) Gee, Gooding; Mrs Bud (Alma) Quigley, Ontario, OR; Mrs Delmar (Dorothy) Cagel, Saratoga, CA; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Evilsizer, Dec 30, 1955. Music will include "Precious Lord, Take My hand" and "Beyond The Sunset" sung by Larry Gee with Deloris Cheslik accompanist. Pallbearers will be Leslie Hendrix, Charles Gee, Delmar Cagel, Bud Quigley, Charles Hoodenpyle and Melvin Mohwinkle. Memorial gif ts may be given to First Methodist Church. "Moe" Mohwinkel, 87, of Gooding, passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at his home. Moe was born Aug. 30, 1924, in Lockwood, Missouri, the son of Frederich William Herman Mohwinkel and Dollie Clementine Hill. He moved with his family to Idaho in 1936 at age 12, attending Shoestring School and Gooding High School. In 1944, Melvin joined the U.S. Marine Corps. He served as a corporal in the 1st Division, 3rd Armored Amphibian Battalion and was involved in campaigns in Peleliu, Ngesebus, Okinawa, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. Moe received two Purple Hearts in Peleliu and Okinawa and was recommended for the Silver Star during the invasion of Okinawa. He was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation Streamer, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal Streamer with four Bronze Stars and the World War II Victory Medal Streamer. He was honorably discharged in 1946, at which time he returned to Gooding. He met the love of his life, Myrl Estep, and they were married Dec. 1, 1946. For the next 65-plus years, they raised their children and shared the ups and downs of life. The couple had two daughters. Family was very important to Melvin. Fishing, hunting, camping and participating in school events were favorite family activities. Moe and Myrl loved helping and being around young people. They opened their home and hearts to several of them who became part of the family over the years. Melvin worked at many jobs throughout his life. He loved to work. He worked as a bartender for Walt Bonning in Gooding; he drove a beer delivery truck for Lucky Lager; he cut, treated and sold posts and poles; he worked at custom farming; owned and operated his own tree business for more than 20 years, and retired after working 20 years for the city of Gooding. Until the time of his death, he enjoyed gardening an acre of land, and all produce he and his wife didn't use he gave away to family, friends, acquaintances and many others. He will be remembered for his gardening skills, great sense of humor, love for people, "dragging Main Street" with his daughters and their friends, the principles and values he passed on to others, and his yellow hard hat. Melvin is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Linda (Terry) Mink of Laramie, Wyo., and Sandra (Bob) Negley of Salt Lake City, Utah; two sisters, Katherine (Jim) Shoemaker of Jerome and Velma (Ellis) Spain of Greenfield, Mo; six grandchildren, Amy Mink, Sarah (William) Hymas, Rebecca (Matt) Ritchie, Joseph (Samantha) Mink, Levi (Erica) Negley and Joshua Negley; and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 13, at Demaray Funeral Service, Gooding Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, July 14, at the United Methodist Church in Gooding. Burial with military honors will follow at the Wendell Cemetery in Wendell. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Demaray Funeral Service, Gooding Chapel. on July 13, 2012.4
