Clifford Smith, 907 South Eleventh, died at 1:50 p.m. Friday in Scott nursing home. She had been ill about eight years and a patient at the nursing home six weeks. Born near Watseka, Ill., she was reared there, moved to the Covington community in 1900 and back to Watseka in 1924. In 1945 she came to this community. She wa married in 1900 to David A. Smith at Watseka. He was a farmer and died in 1940. Mrs. Smith was a member of the DAV and Royal Neighbors lodge. Her son is the only immediate survivor. on May 14, 1960.3

Born Aug. 15, 1922, in Perrysville, she was the daughter of the late Garcie and Pearle Hall Smith. She had lived in Eufaula for the past 14 years after moving from Indiana. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-laws, Joe and Barbara Sollars of Eufaula and Roy Earl and Peggy Sollars of Phoenix; a sister, Barbara Carter of Vancouver, Wash; 10 grandchildren, Dawn Sollars, Darla Stafford, Deanna Ivins, Danielle Hines, Tammy Sollars, Troy Sllars, Tracy Trevino, Gannon Dickerson, Arla Rush and Elizabeth Womack; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Derrickson; a granddaughter, Ebby Barbour; and a sister, Pat Goodwald. Funeral services are 1:30 p.m. CDT today at Fellowship Baptist Church in Eufaula, with the Rev. Joe Sollars officiating. Pallbearers are Troy Sollars, Gannon Derrickson, Seth Sollars, Russ Stafford and Ernie Trevino. Burial will be at 11 a.m. CDT Monday in Poplar Grove Cemetery, north of Marshall, Ind., with the Rev. Joe Dayhuff officiating, with viewing 30 minutes prior to graveside services. on June 11, 2009.2

Barbara married Gene E. Carter on September 3, 1950. He preceded her in death in 1982. Barbara began her working career in 1957 as a secretary for ITT in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. She completed her career in 1973 as an accountant for the State of Oregon. Barbara was a member of the Faith Baptist Church of Vancouver, Washington for 37 years. Her faith was her foundation in life. She participated in leading numerous Bible Study groups over the years. Her hobbies included traveling and needlepoint. Barbara is survived by her four children, Deborah Anderson (Paul Anderson) Vancouver, Washington, Sandra Crawford (Dan Crawford) Sugarland, Texas, Denise Carter (Jeff Parker) Santa Fe, New Mexico and Steven Carter (Jo Carter) Vancouver, Washington; seven grandchildren, Amy Schmidt, Tony Crawford, Nicole Moore, Erik Carter, Leslie Parker, Heather Vanderbilt and Rian Anderson; and eleven great-grandchildren, Laura Sievertson, McKenna Sanford, Aynslie Moore, Payton Moore, Austin Carter, Megan Carter, Allison Carter, Jack Vanderbilt, Amelia Anderson, William Anderson and Daniil Crawford. The family would like to thank the staff at Van Mall for all the wonderful care they gave our mother and the expertise of Kaiser Hospice Care in her final hours. on January 29, 2020.7

Also surviving are a son, James E. of Fort Mill, S.C; two daughters, Vene Birchfield and Linda Lucas, both of Hope, Ind; three brothers, John of Durham, N.C., Robert of Lake Holiday, and Richard of Covington; a sister, Donna Fortner of Wingate; and eight grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday in Cramer-Shoemaker Funeral Home at Waynetown with the Rev. Ed Maurer officiating. Burial will be in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted at the gravesite. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the hospice. on September 22, 1995.2

He was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, served on the finance committee, and was a member of the Disciples Sunday School Class. Mr. Crouse was in construction and had built several houses in Durham. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Colclough Crouse. He is survived by his wife, Marie Denhart Crouse of Covington, Ind; two daughters, Debra C. Freeman and husband, Tony of Durham and Gloria C. Long and husband, Tony of Henderson; step-son, David Denhart of St. Louis, Mo; step-daughter, Alice Denhart of Indiana; two brothers, Bob Crouse of Crawfordsville, Ind., and Richard Crouse and wife, Ann of Covington, Ind; sister, Donna Fortner and husband, Larry of Wingate, Ind; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Bethesda Baptist Church, with the Rev. Clay Stevens and the Rev. Hugh O'Shields officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home of Debra and Tony Freeman, 410 Weatherly Dr. Flowers are acceptable. on March 30, 2003.3

     Robert Melvin "Bob" Crouse Robert Crouse, Dec 15, 1927 - Dec 13, 2013. Robert Crouse of Crawfordsville passed away Sunday morning at St. Vincent’s Hospice. He was 85. Mr. Crouse worked at R.R. Donnelley for 35 years, then bought C & S Tank Lighting and owned that for 20 years. He served his country in the Army as an M.P., stationed in Hawaii. His memberships included the American Legion, 40 & 8, and Elks, where he previously served as manager. Born December 15, 1927 in Perrysville, Indiana, he was the son of Carl and Zola Crouse. He was a graduate of Perrysville High School. Survivors include his son, Alan (Terri) Crouse of Crawfordsville, daughter, Sandie (Gail) Crouse of North Fort Myers, Florida, grandson, Sean Crouse, brother, Rich (Ann) Crouse, sister, Donna and sister-in-law, Marie Crouse. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John and Jim Crouse. No public services are planned. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Burkhart Funeral Home.7 He was born on December 15, 1927 at Covington, Fountain Co., Indiana.4,5,6 He married Beverly Ann Powell on August 15, 1951 at Indiana.5 Robert Melvin "Bob" Crouse died on December 15, 2013 at Crawfordsville, Montgomery Co., Indiana, at age 86.7

     Richard Norton Crouse Richard Norton Crouse, 90, of Covington passed away at 4:43 P. M. Saturday January 16, 2021 at his home surrounded by family. He was born March 21, 1930 at home south of Covington IN the son of Carl V. and Zola Mae (Smith) Crouse. Richard was a resident of Covington most of his life, except eleven years he lived at North Fort Myers FL. He was a 1948 graduate of Perrysville High School and served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He was a member of Covington United Methodist Church. He was formerly a member of VFW, American Legion and Masonic lodge. Richard had owned Crouse Orchards south of Covington and a co-owner of C & D Wheel Horse with Mark Dinsmore. He operated Crouse Exterminating in North Fort Myers, FL. He was the Sexton of Mount Hope Cemetery for many years. Richard married Ann E. Servies June 9, 1950 at Covington United Methodist Church. Ann died November 8, 2015. He is survived by a daughter Jayne Ann (Lonnie) Gawthorp of Veedersburg, and a son Thomas Richard Crouse of Covington; two grandsons, Brian Walter (Kayla) Gassaway of Anderson, SC; and Andrew Scott (Miranda) Gassaway of Kingman, IN; four great grandchildren, Mackinzie, Tenley, Lexi, and Mac Gassaway; several nieces and nephews. Public graveside services following in in his beloved Mount Hope Cemetery. Military services by the Air Force and Veedersburg American Legion. Due to Covind-19 everyone shall wear a mask and observe social distancing.5 He was buried at Mount Hope Cemetery, Covington, Fountain Co., Indiana.5 He was born on March 21, 1930 at Wabash, Fountain Co., Indiana.4,5 He married Ann E. "Ed" Cole, 89, of Bloomington, died Thursday, January, 25, 2018, in IU Health Bloomington Hospital. He was born January 3, 1929, in Danville, Illinois, to Edgar A. Cole and Bertha Smith Cole. He was a retired electrician. Survivors include his wife of 67-1/2 years, Sara Jane Cole, of Bloomington; a son and daughter, Larry Cole and Risa Cole, both of Bloomington; two grandchildren, Corey Alan of Bloomington and Kristina Bland of Indianapolis; a great-grandson, Grayson Bland of Indianapolis; a sister, Frieda Gray of Covington, IN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Reva Turner. Ed was a longtime member of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church, where he served the Lord faithfully. He graduated Perrysville High School in 1947, and served his country in the United States Navy onboard the USS Philippine Sea, CVA-47, during the Korean War as a radar technician. In 1957 Ed and Sara relocated to Bloomington. He went to work at Sarkes Tarzian until 1962, when he became an electrician and worked until 1991. He and Sara owned their own company, Cole Electric, from 1969-1978. Other memberships include the IBEW and the American Legion. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at 1 p.m. in Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, Greene & Harrell Chapel, 700 W.
