Eddie retired from the City of Roanoke as a Maintenance Tech II and will be remembered for his love of the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and trapper. He was also a proud "Grandpa" that cherished his granddaughter, who was center of his life. Eddie touched many lives and never met a stranger. Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 45 years, Barbara Jean Linton Maxey; son, Edward Wilton Maxey, Jr. special granddaughter, Larna Marie Walthall/Maxey. He is also survived by his loving and caring stepmother, Frances Yopp Maxey Dillon; devoted brother and sister, Timothy Maxey and Darlene (Randy) Griffin; nieces, Melissa Conner and Angie Ramsey; nephew, Bruce Maxey, great-nieces, Courtney Haga, Emily Maxey, Claire Maxey, Jessica Cockran and Katie Ramsey, great-nephews, Dillon Bryant and Seth Ramsey; devoted cousin and best friend, Eugene (Vicky) Maxey, as well as numerous other cousins. She was preceeded in death by her parents, Frank A. Linton Sr. and Lucy Blankenship Duncan; her husband, Edward Wilton Maxey Sr; two sisters and an infant brother. During middle childhood, she displayed superb swimming skills. In adolensce she greatly enjoyed water skiing at Smith Mountain Lake. She most often accompanied her husband on his many fishing and trapping expeditions. Mrs. Maxey is a direct descendent of one of western Roanoke County, Va. pioneer families- the Goffs, two documented American Revolution Patriots, a militiamen who served at the command of President George Washington during the Frontier Wars' Whiskey Rebellion, a pensioner veteran of the War of 1812, a pensioner of the Mexican War and two Civil War veterans and she is the great-granddaughter of John H. Linton, 7th Maryland Co. E (Union) and the great-great granddaughter of Jacob Bishop, 28th Virginia Infantry Co. K (Confederate). Selected members of the Joshua L. Chapman Camp #20 Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) will serve as honorary pall bearers.
