     Elizabeth Marie Marrs Elizabeth Marie Conner, 65, of Blue Rock Circle, Princeton, WV passed away in her home on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 after living with poor health over the past several years. Born May 3, 1948, in Bluefield she was the daughter of the late Bud Cecil and Thelma May McFarland Marrs. She worked in the medical field as a LPN with Princeton Community Hospital, Princeton Health Care Center, Glenwood Retirement and Mountaineer Home Nursing of Princeton. She also did private nursing. Marie also, loved cooking, baking and candy making and was very pleased that her family enjoyed her homemade goodies. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Barry Cecil Marrs. Born December 10, 1947, in Bluefield, he was the son of the late charles Ray Catron and Doris Frances Bowling Catron. Les was educated in the Matoaka area. For more than 25 years, Les had a career in law enforcement, having retired as a Deputy Sheriff with the Mercer county Sheriff's Department. Les was working in conjunction with security at the Mercer county courthouse at the time of his death. Les was a very active member of Lilly Grove Baptist church, where he was serving as chairman of Deacons, member of the choir, assistant Sunday school teacher, Van driver, handyman for maintenance and repairs of the church grounds and property, and served on various committees within the life of the church. Les loved his family, friends, working in his garden, mowing and grooming his yard, fishing and was an avid NAScAR fan, following his favorite driver, Jeff Gordon. Les was raised by his grandparents, Eslie and Edith Bowling of Spanishburg. He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 17 years, Mildred Joyce Mccomas catron along with his children; Jeff and Amy Catron of Matoaka, Raymond and Chanda Catron of Winston-Salem NC, Brittni Hurst of the Home, and Jason Jennings of Mullens; two grandchildren, Maddux and Camdyn; His siblings, J. W. Bowling, Freda McPherson both of Spanishburg, Delila and Robert Williams of Rock, Diane Crowling, Steve Thomas, Billy Morris all of Virginia Beach VA. Stump, 57, of Salem, Va., passed away on Monday, November 28, 2011. She was born in Roanoke, a daughter of the late William and Lena Abbott Witt, and had been an area resident all of her life.      Sonja Leigh Stump Sonja Stump, May 28, 1961 - Feb 17, 2025. Sonja Leigh Stump, 63, of Bent Mountain, VA went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 17, 2025, after a hard fought 15 year battle with cancer. She was an active and faithful member of Mount Union Church of the Brethren, where she played the piano since she was a teenager. She also played the piano for the Happy Hearts Gospel Group. Sonja retired from the Roanoke County School Board after 37 years. She volunteered with the Bent Mountain Rescue Squad for 32 years, is a life member and held many positions. She loved spending time with and spoiling her nieces, great nieces and great nephews. She was a selfless and caring angel that will be greatly missed. Sonja was preceded in death by her father, Howard Stump; paternal grandparents, Rev. Cleophas and Junie Stump, maternal grandparents, Tillman and Lelia Dalton. She is survived by her mother, Rachel Dalton Stump; brother, Mark Stump and his wife, Karen; nieces, Mariah (Drew) Roberson, Danielle (Matt) Sink; great-nephews, Trae and Titan Roberson; great-nieces, Tinsley and Teddie Roberson; aunts, uncle and cousins. The family would like to thank Patti File, Heidi Locklin, Jimmy Baroch, the staff of the Blue Ridge Cancer Center and Good Samaritan Hospice for all the love and support shown to the family. Interment will follow at Copper Hill Cemetery.⁴ She was buried at Copper Hill Church of the Brethren Cemetery, 8838 Floyd Hwy N. She was preceded in death by her father, Sydney McCune, Sr. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Chester Scott; mother, Darlene McCune; brother and sister-in-law, Sydney, Jr. and Tina McCune; sisters-in-law, Susan (Dennis) Jones and Teresa (Curtis) Cadd; and God-son, William Lee Simpson.
