Born Jan. 27, 1921, in Jumping Branch, W.Va., he was the son of the late Robert G. and Edna Cole Cochran. Mr. Cochran was a lifelong resident of Alderson, was a World War II veteran, Corporal in the US Marine Corps, in the Battle of Iwo Jima and Occupation in Japan, and in 1991 legislation named the Highest Peak in Wolfcreek after him, "Boone's Peak" of 2763 feet. He was a member of the Alderson Baptist Church for over 30 years and was retired from the Federal Prison System. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Judith Ray Hertz; a sister, Glenna Lemons; and two grandsons, Kevin and Christopher. Survivors include his wife, Beulah Cochran of Alderson; a daughter, Marsha Dale Ray of Alderson; a son, Richard Martin Sr. of Oak Hill; a sister, Virginia Tilley of Mullens; five grandchildren, Robert Flack II, Joseph Flack, Richard Martin Jr., Deborah Lee Martin and Cara Lee Evans; great-grandchildren, Katlyn, Alexandra, Shayanne, Megan, Erica and Kimberly and great-great-grandchild, Caleb Ray McMillion. Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, at the Longanacre Funeral Home Chapel, Fairlea, with the Rev. Harry Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the Fletcher Addition of the Alderson Cemetery, Alderson with Military Graveside rites. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Longanacre Funeral Home, Fairlea. on October 21, 2011.3
