     John H. Harmon was buried at High Lawn Memorial Park, Oak Hill, Fayette Co., West Virginia.³ He was born on May 24, 1930 at Quinwood, Greenbrier Co., West Virginia.^2,5,4 He married Bonnie L. Correll, daughter of Paul Correll and Alma Louise Blake, on September 6, 1952 at Bradley, Fayette Co., West Virginia.^1,2 John H. Harmon died on September 1, 2007 at Dayton, Montgomery Co., Ohio, at age 77.^3,5,4 He HARMON, John H. Age 77 of Kettering passed away Saturday September 1, 2007 at the VA Hospice. He was preceded in death by parents Fred and Grace Harmon, 3 brothers (William, Joseph, and Wesley) 3 sisters (Helen Blankenship, Betty Ruth Short Hawkins, Mary Jean Gazzigla). He is survived by loving and devoted wife of 55 years Bonnie, one son Paul (& wife Jody) and two grandsons Matthew and Billy Harmon of Westford, MA, two sisters, Henrietta Jones of Fredricksburg, VA and Shirley Light of Oak Hill, W. VA and many nieces, nephews, and friends. John proudly served in the US Air Force for 6 years, serving 2 years in Okinawa, spent 28 years for McCall's (Dayton Press) and 12 years with Lehigh Press in Carrollton, TX where he helped start up a new TV Guide plant. After retiring , he worked part time for 12 years at Westendorf Printing Co. in Dayton, OH. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Kettering. The family wishes to thank the many friends who helped care for him during many years of illness. Funeral Service 2 pm Monday September 3, 2007 at the Tobias Funeral Home-Far Hills Chapel 5471 Far Hills Ave at Rahn Rd. Dr Barry Jude officiating. Visitation 12 noon to 2 pm Monday at the funeral home. Additional services will be held in W. VA on Tuesday at the Tyree FH followed by interment at High Lawn Memorial Park. on September 2, 2007.³

     William T. Hornbarger was buried at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown, Washington Co., Maryland.⁴ He was born on October 17, 1906 at Virginia.^1,4 He married Genevieve Palmer circa 1928.³ William T. Hornbarger died on November 24, 1959 at age 53.⁴

     Charles Lee "Charlie" Hornbarger was buried at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown, Washington Co., Maryland.⁵ He was born on June 19, 1908 at Roderfield, McDowell Co., West Virginia.⁶ He died on April 9, 1970 at New York, New York Co., New York, at age 61.⁵ He NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. — Charles L. Hornbarger, 61, 244 W. Mill St., died Thursday at Belview Hospilal in New York. Born in West Virginia, he was the son of Hiram Edmondson and Hallie Gertrude Lawrence Hornbarger. He was employed as a machinist by the Western Maryland Railway for 11 years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in France. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Catherine H. Derbyshire of Ridley Park, Pa., and one brother, Harold C. Hornbarger of Hagerstown. Private funeral services were held today at 2 p. m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Wilbur S. Hogcvoll officiating. Burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery. on April 13, 1970.⁵

     Robert M. Hornbarger was buried at Baltimore National Cemetery, 5501 Frederick Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland.³ He was born on July 11, 1914 at Virginia.^1,3 He died on September 30, 1964 at age 50.³

Born Aug. 6, 1917, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Henry E. and Hattie G. Hornbarger. She was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Derbyshire, in 1978. She was a 1935 graduate of Hagerstown High School. She was employed as a secretary for approximately 50 years with General Electric Co. in Ridley Park, Pa. She served in the U.S. Navy. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Ridley Park. She was a volunteer at the Washington County Free Library. She is survived by nephews, Terry Johnson, William Hornbarger and Douglas Hornbarger; and four grandnephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles L. Hornbarger and Harold C. Hornbarger. Graveside services will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery. The Rev. Scott P. Bellows will officiate. There will be no viewing. Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Hagerstown, Md. Feb. 20 – A smouldering fire in an apartment house suffocated a mother and her young son today and seriously burned two other persons. The dead are Mrs. Genevieve Hornberger, 25, and her son, Jackie, 2. Those burned were Hershel Palmer 18, and Eileen Palmer, 17, brother and sister of Mrs. Hornberger. Hershel was burned when he ran through the flames to a second story window and cut when he jumped through the glass. He suffered a broken leg. His condition is critical. His sister was burned before firemen brought her from the building but she is expected to recover. Firemen said the flames did little damage, but the heat and the smoke bottled in the three-story brick house accounted for the deaths and injuries. The flames apparently started in the cellar. Hot gases rose along the open stairway and accumulated in the third story, killing the woman and her baby in their beds where they were found. Ten or twelve persons were in the house when the fire was discovered a little before 6 a.m. by Mrs. Lillian Gross, who lives on the first floor. She gave the alarm and awakened her family. Eileen, asleep on the first floor, was burned as she ran to the door. Another family escaped to a porch roof from a second story window and firemen took them down ladders. Hershel was asleep in the front part of the house on the second floor. Firemen estimated the damage at $2,000. All the wordwork in the house was blistered and charred by the intense heat but only the basement and stairway were actually burned. on February 21, 1938.¹

She was born in Saltville, Va., to the late Lena and Roy Mitchell. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by brothers, James Mitchell and wife, Pearl, Bill Mitchell and wife, Helen, Claude Mitchell and Charles Mitchell; also sisters, Mildred Mitchell Coates and husband, Frankie, and Elsie Mitchell Davis; and brother-in-law, Robert Kestner. She is survived by her husband, Emanuel F. Sowder; sons, Stephen L. Sowder and wife, Diane, and David L. Sowder and wife, Pam; grandson, David Adam Sowder; and granddaughters, Stephanie K. Sowder and Kaye L. Sowder. Also surviving are sister, Sue Mitchell Kestner; sisters-inlaw, Betty Mitchell and Edna Mitchell; brother-in-law, James Davis; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sowder was a member of Oak Grove Church of the Brethren for nearly 50 years. She was a graduate of the Roanoke Memorial Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1953. She was an excellent nurse and a precious, loving and faithful wife to her husband, Emanuel. She loved her husband, sons, daughtersin-law, and grandchildren very much. She worked 39 years for Dr. Luther Lowe at Brambleton Clinic. She loved Jesus Christ, her church and church family, and her many friends and patients at Brambleton Clinic. She touched the hearts and lives of many and will be missed very much. Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, June 26, 2009, at Oakey's South Chapel with Pastor William Pugh officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 25, 2009, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel.
