     Ruth Elizabeth Lockett Ruth Lockett Hubble - Ruth Hubble, a long-time resident of Salem, passed away Thursday, July 20, 2017. Born in 1938 in East Bottom (an area in Salem near the old ballpark) as part of the Lockett family, Ruth was Salem born and bred. She graduated from Andrew Lewis High School in 1957. As part of the reunion committee, she helped plan many high school reunions for the Class of '57. Ruth retired from the Salem VA Medical Center where she worked for more than 20 years serving our veterans. Ruth was able to enjoy over 20 years in retirement. She loved the sun and the beach. She also loved cooking, baking, and entertaining for friends and family. One of her favorite past times was playing bridge and with her long-time friends. She is survived by her only daughter Leslie Hubble and her sister Chris Harris. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Family and friends loved her dearly and know that she will now be with her momma Sarah or "Granny Lockett", sisters Jo, Emma Jean and Ginny, her brother Archie, her little dog "Katie" and our Lord in Heaven.³ She was born on November 28, 1938 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.^1,2 As of May 19, 1957,her married name was Hubble.¹ She married Garland Lee Hubble, son of Samuel Henry "Sam" Hubble and Maudie Adeline Gearheart, on May 19, 1957 at South Carolina.¹ Ruth Elizabeth Lockett and Garland Lee Hubble were divorced on November 14, 1960 at Roanoke Co., Virginia.¹ Ruth Elizabeth Lockett died on July 20, 2017 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia, at age 78.³

     Lindsey Andrew Huffman Jr. was born on February 19, 1933 at Roanoke, Virginia.^1,3 He married Phyllis Jean Hubble, daughter of Samuel Henry "Sam" Hubble and Maudie Adeline Gearheart, on January 1, 1960 at Chesterfield, Chesterfield Co., South Carolina.¹ Lindsey Andrew Huffman Jr. and Phyllis Jean Hubble were divorced on January 7, 1974 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia.¹ Lindsey Andrew Huffman Jr. died on July 22, 2015 at Ocala, Marion Co., Florida, at age 82.² He Lindsey Andrew Huffman, Jr., of Ocala went to be with the Lord on July 22, 2015. Lindsey was born in Roanoke, VA to the late Virginia and Lindsey A. Huffman, Sr. He was veteran of the US Army, 11th Airborne Division during the Korean Conflict. Lindsey retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad, in Roanoke, VA. Following his retirement, Lindsey and his wife moved to FL. He was preceded in death by his brother and sister. Lindsey is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Ann Marie; daughter, Tracey Manley and her husband, Keith of Goode, VA; grandchildren, Kimberly and Matthew Dieber; step-daughter, Karen Radford of Roanoke, VA and step-granddaughter, Amanda Radford. on July 26, 2015.²

     Karen Lynn Atkinson WHALEN, Karen Atkinson, 64, of Henrico, departed this life May 14, 2016. She was preceded in death by her father, Claude Freeman Atkinson. She is survived by husband, David Whalen; mother, Arline Atkinson; uncle, Cary Hatch; daughters, Becky Shook, Melissa Pardo (Jessie) and Lisa Hernandez Nieves (Jose); stepchildren, Lori Scaparo (Mark) and David Whalen (Karen); 19 grandchildren; brothers, William Atkinson (Diane) and Robert Atkinson; and five nieces and nephews. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery.³ She was buried at Woodland Cemetery, Ashland, Hanover Co., Virginia.³ She was born on November 28, 1951 at Richmond, Virginia.^1,4 As of June 16, 1972,her married name was Gearheart.¹ She married Robert Wayne Gearheart, son of Wilbern Shelton Gearheart and Glenice Armistead "Glennie" Woodson, on June 16, 1972 at Henrico Co., Virginia.¹ Karen Lynn Atkinson and Robert Wayne Gearheart were divorced on June 4, 1997 at Chesterfield Co., Virginia.² Karen Lynn Atkinson died on May 14, 2016 at Virginia at age 64.³

Surviving are David's wife and the children's mother, Janice Dede Lawson; David's brothers, Larry Lawson, Phillip Lawson, Ferrell Lawson, Bruce Lawson, Kenny Lawson and wife, Betty; his sisters, Jean Lemon and Lona Lawson; his aunt, Virginia Lawson; David's father, Richard Wells; uncle, Edward Wells, Jr; children's grandparents,Bobby and Mildred Ferguson, Patricia and Doug Laxton, Susan and Edward Wells; cousins, Ricky Lawson and sons, Jody Lawson, Darlene Lawson and Wanda Lawson; other aunts, uncles and relatives. on October 26, 2001.⁷

     David Preston Bandy was buried at Culpeper National Cemetery, 305 U.S. Avenue, Culpeper, Culpeper Co., Virginia.^3,4 He was born on September 2, 1941 at Roanoke, Virginia.^1,5,3 He married Kathy Ruth Manning, daughter of William Fred "Junior" Manning Jr. and Peggy Marie Paxton, on April 9, 1982 at Roanoke, Virginia.¹ David Preston Bandy died on December 27, 2003 at Salem, Roanoke Co., Virginia, at age 62.^2,3,4 He David Preston Bandy, 62, of Roanoke, passed away Saturday, December 27, 2003. His is survived by his wife Kathy Bandy. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, 11 a.m. in Culpeper National Cemetery, Culpeper, Va. Arrangements by Serenity Funeral Home. on January 3, 2004.⁴

She had been a resident of Williamsburg for 43 years. She worked for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation for 26 years as a banquet-conference coordinator. After retiring on June 1, 1990, she returned to work as an interpreter at Grove, the Wren Building and Bassett Hall. Her second retirement came in 1995 while she was working at the DeWitt Wallace Gallery. She was a founding member of the Williamsburg Players in 1957, and her lifelong love of the theater led her to appear in many productions over the years. "Gladys was a pleasure to work," said Mrs. Molly Robbins, a longtime member of the Williamsburg Players. "She acted in a lot of plays and worked in various capacities behind the scenes. She was always reliable, always knew her part down to the last word, and was someone I enjoyed working with. I had great respect for her and was very fond of her." Mrs. Manning was a member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her daughter, Gail B. Young of Glen Burnie, Md; her daughter and son-in-law, Victoria and Drew Zwald of Statesboro, and son, Herb Baras of Williamsburg; a brother, Matthew Dundrea of Alexandria; a nephew, Brent Foist of Greenfield, Ind; three stepchildren, Teresa Morse of Richmond, Lesa Williams of Hickory, N.C., and Larry Manning of Surry. Also, four grandchildren. David Hicks of Orlando, Fla., Michelle Connelly of Glen Burnie, Jami Smart of Monroe, La., and Kaylie Baras of Las Vegas, Nev; five great-grandchildren, Corey and Hunter Smart of Monroe, Mikala Connelly of Glen Burnie, Megan and Lauren Hicks of Orlando; and six step-grandchildren, Alex and Scott Morse of Richmond, Candace and Robbie Williams of Hickory, and Lee and Trevor Manning of Surry. on February 11, 2004.³

"Bobby" Williams, 53, a native of Poquoson and a Thomasville, N.C., resident the past four years, died Saturday, June 25, 2005. Bobby was an ink technician with Inx International Ink Co. the last 14 years. He was a 1970 graduate of Poquoson High School, an Air Force Vietnam veteran, a Methodist and an avid golfer. Bobby was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Elton and Laura Topping, and paternal grandparents, Edward and Elsie Williams. He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Lesa Manning Williams; his three children, Jennifer R. Williams of Rock Hill, S.C., Robert E. 'Robby' Williams Jr. of Thomasville and Kandis Diann Williams of Thomasville; his parents, Ophelia Sue and Earl Edward Williams of Poquoson; a brother, Earl E. Williams Jr. and wife, Geneva, of Poquoson; two sisters, Linda Sue King and husband, Doug, of Newport News and Patricia A. Pigford and husband, Donald, of Poquoson; seven nieces and six nephews; four great-nieces and one great-nephew.
