Bunyan McGaha, 73, well-Known citizen of Transylvania County, N.C. died at the home of his daughter Mrs. Leslie Hogsed, near Brevard, Sunday at noon following an illness of one week. Mr. McGaha was sheriff of Transylvania county eight years and was revenue officer several years with headquarters in Greenville, S.C.In the capacity, he served with Capt. R.Q. Merrick, now with the Alcohol Tax unit in Atlanta. At one time he was interested in journalism, publishing in Brevard and established the Sylvan Valley News in 1896. He owned and operated the first bus lines between Greenville and Brevard, a period of four years. He was a son of the late J.C. and Harriet McGaha and was affiliated with the Little River Methodist chapel at Cedar Mountain. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Elzie Raxter, Brevard; Mrs. Lesile Hogsed, Brevard; Mrs. Jacie Wolfe, Davidson River; three sisters Mrs. Sarah Hardin; Mountain Lake Colony S.C; Mrs. Ellen Hardin, Brevard; and Mrs. Elmina Keaith, Oklahoma. A number of grandchildren survive as also do the following step-children; L.J. Bishop, Charlotte; W.L. Bishop, Cedar Mountain; J.H. Bishop, Greenville; and Miss Jennie Bishop, Greenville. Funeral rites will be conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Oak Grove Methodist Church near here. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. Harvey Southers of Pisgah Forrest and Rev. J.R. Bowman pastor of Oak Grove, will officiate. on January 16, 1940.⁴
