He started his journey at home while surrounded by his family. Born July 15, 1938, in Wahkeegan, Ill., Fred was the oldest of four children. He served in the U.S. Air Force before marrying his beloved wife, Patricia Anne, in 1961. They settled down together and were blessed with three children before calling the High Desert home in 1974. Fred worked for U.S. Borax in Boron as an electrical engineer for nearly 20 years. He retired as an electrical contractor while living in Hesperia in 1995. Fred is survived by his wife, Patricia, of 47 years; his children Sherri and Johnny Brown of Lucerne Valley, Debbie and Earl Kunath of Phelan, and Fred Bryan McKern of Lucerne Valley; 10 grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. He is also survived by his siblings, George and Karen McKern, Clifford and Judy McKern, Joyce and Bill Dunn and their families. He was preceded by his parents, Fred and Beaulah Lee McKern. Fred will be sorely missed by all his family and friends. There will be a celebration of his life on Thursday, May 21, 2009, at Victor Valley Memorial Park. The viewing is to be held at 1 p.m., followed by a graveside ceremony at 3 p.m. on May 21, 2009.3
