Patsy was born April 11, 1925 in Carlisle, daughter of the late Annie Rooney Fitzpatrick Garrett and William Thomas Garrett. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Sigmon; sister, Leona Wagner; and brothers, Woodrow Garrett, Everett Garrett and Nelson Garrett. She graduated as a registered nurse from Raleigh General Nursing School, in 1946. She was a member of the Army nurses corps. She had a long nursing career and was employed at Beckley Hospital, Fayette County Health Department, Plateau Medical Center as well as Cook County Hospital in Chicago. She was a caring and compassionate nurse who dedicated much of her life to her profession. She displayed leadership both in her professional and personal life. She had a passion for traveling and loved spending time with her family and beloved pet, Lily. Her hobbies included swimming, dancing, cooking, and watching baseball. She enriched the lives of those around her with her selfless actions and sweet spirit. Those closest to her described her as being someone who was adventurous and lived her life in service of others. Surviving: a brother, Donald B. Garrett of Oak Hill; her daughters, Karen Walker Valentine and husband Donald of Lee's Summit, Mo. and Dana Sigmon Treadway and husband Otie of Oak Hill; grandsons, Jonathan Valentine and wife Carolyn and Matthew Valentine and wife Shanda, all of Greenwood, Mo., Noah Valentine of Granite City, Mo. and Anthony Treadway and wife Miranda and Adam Treadway, all of Oak Hill; great-grandchildren, Katie and Jake (Jon) Mattie and unborn granddaughter (Matthew) and Noah Jr. and Eve (Noah); very special nieces, Lena Cox and husband Les of Beckley and Patty Lee Linares and husband Carlos of North Beach, Md; and very special caregivers, Debra Carr, Ruth King, Mary Hamilton, Susie Murphy and Anna Evans. Graveside services and entombment were conducted Sept. 3 at High Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Building #4 with Pastor James Keaton officiating. on September 10, 2015.¹

The interment will follow in Dotson Memorial Cemetery. on September 26, 2012.²

Shawkey Jr and wife, Amanda; daughter, Mandy Shawkey; daughter, Christina Clark and husband Robert; 6 loving grandchildren, Robert the 3rd, Damien, Angelique, Kayelynn, Aydynn and Alexis.⁴ He was born on January 18, 1960 at Oak Hill, Fayette Co., West Virginia.⁴ He married Karyl F.
