Born June 18, 1944, in Roseanne, Virginia, he was the son of the late Edgar Talbott Sr., and Fleeta Lucille Thorton. He was an electician and Preparation Plant Superintendent for Knox Creek and United Coal Companies. James is a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Ozark. He also attended Tri-State Technical College at Angola, Indiana, where he played basketball for two years. Jim was an avid bird hunter, had two faithful English setters, enjoyed nature, fishing, rough housing with his grandsons, and had true a passion for waterskiing. He was a past Elder and member of Buchanan Presbyterian Church. He was a wonderful friend, devoted father, loving husband, and phenomenal grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Brenda Carol Talbott. Survivors include: Daughters, Allison Street and husband Ben of Grundy, Virginia; Sarah Elizabeth Talbott of Grundy, Virginia; Megan LeAnne Dale and husband Ricky Brandon of Damascus, Virginia; Grandsons, Wyatt James Street, Canyon Wilder Dale; Brother, Edgar Talbott Jr., and wife Mary Carol of Big Rock, Virginia. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Burial will follow at Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, Virginia.      Brenda Carol Blackburn Brenda Carol Talbott, 66 years of age of Grundy, VA, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at her home after a one year illness. Born in Feds Creek, KY, she was the daughter of the late Carson and Sadie Rowe Blackburn. She was a resident of Buchanan County most of her life and was a member of the Buchanan First Presbyterian Church, Grundy, VA. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. Mrs. Talbott retired after many years of service to the Buchanan County School System in 2012. As an Elementary School Teacher, she taught at P.V. Dennis, J.M. Bevins and Hurley Elementary Schools. She attended the University of Kentucky for 2-years, graduated from Charleston Southern University, Charleston, SC, and received her Master's Degree from Virginia Tech.      Edgar Franklin Talbott Jr. Edgar Franklin Talbott, Jr., age 79, of Big Rock, died at his home July 20, 2020, following an extended illness. Born September 21, 1940, in Richlands, he was the son of the late Edgar F. Talbott, Sr. and Fleta Thornton Talbott. A retired educator and Buchanan County Hall of Fame member, he was also a former Boy Scouts District Commissioner and Scoutmaster for Hurley Boy Scout Troop 41, earning several honors, including the prestigious Silver Beaver Award, and leading many young men to attain the rank of Eagle Scout. He was also commissioned a Kentucky Colonel for extraordinary community service. He was a graduate of Hurley High School and Pikeville College. In more than 30 years with Buchanan County Public Schools, he was a teacher, coach, bus driver, Transportation Supervisor, Health and Wellness Coordinator, and Anti-drug Coordinator. He worked tirelessly to sponsor student programs, clubs, and tournaments and was a longtime announcer for the Hurley Rebels football team. He also initiated, organized, and managed for many years the award-winning Buchanan County After Prom Party, which offered a drug-free venue for countless students to safely celebrate prom night. As an innovative physical education teacher at D.A. Justus Elementary and Hurley High School, he was an inspirational promoter of a healthy lifestyle, good sportsmanship, and exercise, especially running and hiking. He ran more than 100 races, including 10 marathons. He also hiked the entire 2,190 miles of the Appalachian Trail and biked the full length of the Blue Ridge Parkway. He was a water safety instructor and avid water skier. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Archie Talbott, and his sister-in-law, Brenda Blackburn Talbott. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Chancey Talbott; one son, Edgar F. Talbott, III and daughter-in-law Michelle Justus, of Grundy; one daughter, Terri Johnson and son-in-law Philip Scott Johnson, of Pounding Mill; three grandchildren, Audrey, Liam, and Gehrig Johnson of Pounding Mill; and three nieces, Allison (Ben) Street and Sarah Talbott, of Grundy, and Megan (Brandon) Dale of Damascus. Burial will follow at Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock. She was born August 19, 1925, in Bridgeport, the daughter of the late Arden S. and Lena Lancaster Winter. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Randolph Thornton in 1972. She is survived by a son, Samuel R. Thornton and his wife, Rebecca; two grandsons, Randy Thornton and his significant other, Vana Sendling; her daughter, Jazzlyn and Joshua Thornton and his wife, Laurel and their daughter, Leora. Madeline earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in nutrition from West Virginia University and completed her master’s from Ohio State University. She began working in nutrition at St. Mary’s Hospital in Clarksburg and later retired with 30 years of service as head of the dietary department at United Hospital Center. She was a member of Bridgeport United Methodist Church. She loved her family and spending time camping and watching Randy and Josh’s soccer games. They called her “Nee Nee” and together they shared amazing moments of love, which included “floorgate” or a tailgate party at home watching the West Virginia Mountaineers. “Nee Nee” will be greatly missed by family and friends. The interment will follow in the Bridgeport Cemetery. on October 10, 2018.¹ She died on October 10, 2018 at Bridgeport, Harrison Co., West Virginia, at age 93.¹

     Dorothy Gayle Snider Gayle S. Denison, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 11, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Denison and her parents, Al and Minnie Lou Snider. Gayle had retired from serving in the health industry with Carilion and had especially enjoyed working with Dr. Nottingham. She thoroughly enjoyed all sports. Surviving are her son, Wally Denison and wife, Kelly; grandchildren, Mallory and Marshall Denison; sister, Donna Arthur and husband, Steve; nieces and nephew, Stephanie, Mary Ellen and Alan; and sister-in-law, Dottie Denison. W., Roanoke, Virginia.^7,2,5,6 His Social Security Number was 228-42-2990.⁸ He was born on July 27, 1934 at Greenville, Muhlenberg Co., Kentucky.^{1,2,8,3,4,5,9} He married Dorothy Gayle Snider, daughter of William Alphus "Al" Snider and Minnie Lou Thornton, on November 23, 1956 at Roanoke, Virginia.^1,10,2,6 Dr. Walter Marshall Denison died on July 26, 1970 at Charlottesville, Virginia, at age 35.^2,4,5,6 He Dr. W. Marshall Denison, 35, the president of John Tyler Community College in Chesterfield County, died Sunday in a Charlottesville hospital of Hodgkins disease. He lived at Kingston Road, NW, in Roanoke. A native of Greenville, Ky., Denison attended Andrew Lewis High School and was a 1956 graduate of Roanoke College. He received his master's degree from Radford College and his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia in 1969. He taught physics in the Roanoke public schools and later taught math and physics at Roanoke Technical Institute, a predecessor of Virginia Western. He served as dean of student services at RTI and in 1968 was named head of student services of the Virginia community college system. Denison became president of the college in January of this year. He was a veteran of the Navy, and a member of Pleasants Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Gayle Snider Denison, Roanoke; a son, W. M. "Wally" Denison Jr., Roanoke; his parents, Mr. and D. P. Denison, Roanoke; and a brother, D. P. Denison Jr., Roanoke. Burial in Cedar Lawn Cemetery. on July 27, 1970.⁶
