Lawrence McKinley Gray, 66, of Roanoke, VA met his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, June 25th, 2024 after a strong fight against cancer. He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mary Gray. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Barbara Gray. Larry and Barbara had one child, Lauren Saville, her husband Shane, and one grandchild that he loved dearly, Carson McKinley Saville. Larry also leaves behind his sister, Liz Gray (Neal Devins) and her two children; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jan and Bob Mullmann; niece Brittany Heath (Stanson), their two children, Brock and Brett, and nephew Michael Mullmann (Michelle), along with many other loving family and friends. Larry was a Big Lick native, who was proud of his 40-year career as a 4th generation Conductor for the Radford Division of Norfolk Southern. While his career was an accomplishment he took great pride in, the title he loved most was being "Pops" to his grandson, Carson, whom he lovingly nick-named Wiggly. Larry took his job as Pops very seriously, always wanting to care for Wiggle, and looked forward to teaching him to play golf. Pops and Wiggle shared many snuggles and naps during their 11 months together, and Carson has gained the most loving Guardian Angel. Larry enjoyed playing golf with the SMGA at Hidden Valley Country Club, relaxing on the beach, traveling with his family and thanking God every day. He lived his life "one-day-at-a-time" and loved railroading, a fresh cup of coffee and a big slice of yellow cake with chocolate icing. The family extends their thanks and gratitude to Dr. Mary Carter, Dr. Andrew Fintel and the staff at Blue Ridge Cancer Center, along with countless friends and family that have provided care, support and love.⁴ He was born on September 24, 1957 at Roanoke, Virginia.^3,4,5 He married Barbara Ann Setliff on September 8, 1990 at Roanoke, Virginia.³ Lawrence McKinley Gray died on June 25, 2024 at Roanoke, Virginia, at age 66.⁴
