She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bluefield, WV, where she was president of the United Methodist Women from 1978-1981. She worked for Koppers Coal Company and Mercer County Schools, briefly. She served as a Girl Scout Leader in Kimball. Gladys was preceded in death, other than her parents, by her husband William Edgar Gray; three brothers James, John, and Richard Roberts. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Libby Vandevander (Gene) of Kimball, Jane Hanson (Mike), and Kenneth Roberts of Durham, NC. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bluewell, WV. Hartman, 91, of Roanoke, Virginia, entered the Gates of Heaven on Saturday, December 19, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, George W. Hartman and Mattie A. Hartman, and several brothers and sisters. Alvin is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Peggy Hartman; loving son, David Hartman; his brother, Ray Hartman; his sister, Ruth Leffell; and a number of nieces and nephews. Interment will follow at the Amos Cemetery in Boones Mill, Virginia. on December 22, 2020.⁴

Former Paradise resident Richard Ludwick died Nov. 29 at Downey Community Hospital. He was 69. Mr. Ludwick worked at Brown's Ace Hardware store in Paradise from 1987 to 1996, when he moved with his wife to Southern California. Born to Leon and Mabel Ludwick on Aug. 14, 1930, Mr. Ludwick spent his early years in St. Johns, Mich. He entered the Army in 1951 and served with the 508th Airborne Infantry, stationed out of Fort Benning, Ga. After leaving the military, he worked as meat cutter in Michigan, Florida and California for 43 years before retiring to Paradise in 1987. Mr. Ludwick enjoyed reading, traveling and the outdoors, but his greatest pleasure was derived from the time he spent with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, JoAnn Ludwick of Downey, Calif; sons, Dale of Sacramento, Gary of Downey, Tarey of Spokane, Wash. and Greg of Fairbanks, Alaska; daughter, Cheryle of Bainbridge Island, Wash; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, five nieces and two nephews. on December 9, 1999.³

Ramsey, 68, of Charlotte, died on June 13, 2002, after complications from a recent stroke. He was born on May 22, 1934, in Rocky Mount, VA to Cecil and Edna Ramsey. He is survived by his brother, Donald; his three sons, Tim, Jeff, and Mike; six grandchildren; and numerous other loved friends and family. Mr Ramsey completed two tours of duty with the United States Air Force as a firefighter stationed at Myrtle Beach, SC and was honorably discharged on November 18, 1960. In December of 1960, he earned his degrees to become a master Mason and moved to Charlotte, NC, where he continued his career with the Charlotte Fire Department. He began at Fire Station 17 at Charlotte-Douglas Airport and retired from there at the rank of captain. There will be a graveside service on Sunday June 16 at 4:00 PM in Henry, VA at Town Creek Primitive Baptist Church. on June 15, 2002.⁸
